Phoenix West Indians v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 27 Jun 2010 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 1 wicket
Match report
Clash of the Titans is the myth of Perseus and his quest to battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster to save the Princess Andromeda. In this century, the Clash of the Titans is a match full of fantasy, jokes and laughter where the Phoenix Asains battle it out with the Phoenix West Indians.
Who would be triumphant like Zeus, Poseidon, Pegasus & Perseus and who would be the losers like Hades, Medusa Kraken & Acrisius.
So onto the game itself where on winning the toss the skipper of the Phoenix West Indians elected to bat first. Phoenix made a quick breakthough with David bowling a beauty that moved of the seam to take the edge but then the Phoenix West Indians took control. With the help of some good batting and dreadful fielding PWI went past the hundred runs mark in very quick time and with only one wicket down. Then Phoenix unleashed their own Zeus, Poseidon, Pegasus & Perseus in the form of Nad, Noman, David & Rahul as they dragged the game back into Phoenix's favour.
Nad bowled effortlessly well as he took five wickets with four of those wickets coming from some remarkable fielding. Noman taking two stumpings with such fast glove work that the bails were off with the batsman just outside of his crease, David took a brilliant catch over his shoulder as he made alot of ground at long-off and finally Rahul taking a stunner of a catch as he leapt one handed at mid-on to pluck the ball out of the sky.
Phoenix West Indians at tea made one hundred and sixty sevens runs and Phoenix Asains knew that they had to bat well in order to win the game.
Phoenix came out to bat and after an early hiccup with the loss of Fabian, Mo and Jay set out to chase the game. They took to the bowlers as they plundered seventy runs off just eight overs. Jay was in splendid form as he hit a quickfire fifty-seven runs which included nine fours and two sixes.
Phoenix were crusing to victory as they reach one hundred and thirty for four in the sixteenth over. Then the Prodigious Cricket Collapse ensued as Phoenix lost five wickets for just twenty-seven runs in just five overs. Nerves were dangling and the banter from both sides were strong when Sanj came out to bat with Nad at the crease. With five balls remaining in the over Sanj said to Nad 'we need to do it in this over'. Even though overs were not the problem but it was a matter of temperament and Nad stood strong as twelve runs came of that over for Phoenix to win the game.
The man of the match award goes to Noman for his amazing stumpings that got Phoenix back in the match. The half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Rahul for his stunning one hand leap catch. A special mention to Jay for passing five hundred runs and to Nad for passing one hundred runs as well as 20 wickets for the season thus far. Also a shout out to Meher for coming and supporting the lads.
A special thanks to Phoenix West Indians who fought to the very end and as always were an enthused & fun loving bunch of guys. As for Phoenix, they escaped defeat but lessons should be learned in taking responsibility of your own innings and such what the team needs you to do. Sadly this was missing today in some players performances.
To quote Tom Robbins (American Novelist. b.1936) “Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.”
