Ramgarhia v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 20 Jun 2010 at 1.30pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 50 runs

Match report The Ramgarhia community is an ethnic tribe of the Punjab region in South Asia. They are named after Sardar Jassa Singh Ramgarhia who was the leader of the Ramgarhia Misl.

In 1716 Ahmed Shah Durrane left Lahore, Adina Beg the Afghan Governor of Punjab was hunting for the heads of the sikhs, they dispersed and scattered in all directions. Jassa Singh and others in the band took refuge in the mud fort of Ram Rauni near Amritsar where they were surrounded and attacked during the ensuing period. In 1758 Adina Beg died and there was a power vacuum in Punjab and those who escaped from fort of Ram Rauni assumed the name of Ramgarhias and Jassa Singh became its head. The Misal (Confederacy) was called Ramgarhia.

With Fabian back from injury he led his legions alongside Nad. A hot day welcomed both teams and on winning the toss the Ramgarhia elected to bat first. The Phoenix were in fine voice as they rapped the tune made famous by Mark Morrison as Fabian came onto the field:

Return of the Mack
It is Return of the Mack
Come on Return of the Mack
Oh, my god You know that I'll be back
Here I am

Return of the Mack
Once again Return of the Mack
Top of the world Return of the Mack
Watch my flow You know that I'll be back
Here I go

This was as good as it got as bad fielding and dropped catches ran epidemic as it spread infectiously to each and every player. Seemed like Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) which is a human syndrome caused by intestinal viruses of the Picornaviridae family had been caught.

At tea, Phoenix just had to enjoy the Fête of BBQ chicken wings and noodles alongside the other lovely delicacies which were considered highly desirous. Phoenix came out to bat knowing they need to keep up with the run rate but at the same time not to lose wickets. The game was all but lost at the fall of Fabian's and Jay's wicket but the rest of the team mustered up a good fight but eventuall succmubed. Due to the terrible fielding performance Phoenix had to chase two hundred and seventy eight instead of two hundred and thirty. This cost us the game as we were all out for two hundred and twenty eight.

The man of the match award goes to Snoop his four wickets and bowling well under the condiitons. The half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Ramgarhia Tea Lady for providing BBQ Chicken & Beers. A special mention to Jason, Cyrus, Zee and Gindi for coming down to provide support and not the voices from hell as some people thought.

A special thanks to Ramgarhia who played the game in the same manner as we do. As for Phoenix, a bad performance that we need to quickly forget since we are much better than this. Practice as if you are the worst, perform as if you are the best maybe the best option. Don't lower your expectations to meet your performance. Raise your level of performance to meet your expectations. Expect the best of yourself, and then do what is necessary to make it a reality.

To quote Harold S. Geneen (American Businessman, He was CEO of ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph) (1959-77), 1910-1997) “Performance stands out like a ton of diamonds. Non performance can always be explained away.”
