Minehead v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Thu 13 Jul 2006 at 2.30pm

Match report
The first written mention of Minehead comes in the Doomsday Book of 1087. The name ‘Minehead’ is Celtic, similar in origin to the Welsh mynydd (mountain), reflecting the prominence of North Hill which shelters the settlement at its base, immediately next to the sea.
The tour of duty called and many virgin 'tour' soldiers were taken to the battle front as Jason led his troops to Minehead for the first of four games. A scorcher of a day welcomed both teams with spirits high everyone looked forward to a fun game whatever the result.
Minehead were short of players and asked Jason if they could bat first which we obliged. Phoenix got of to a great start with a wicket in the first over as a ball for Mitul nipped back in to bowl the opening bat. Ali raced in with control aggression and soon had the Minehead batsman struggling for runs. After twenty overs Minehead were sixty seven for three. But Minehead's best two batsman came in and soon found the gaps punishing both good and ball balls to the boundaries. Both men raced to fifty as their innings ended on two hundred and forty five off the allotted forty overs.
Phoenix needed to battle if they were to win the game.
Phoenix were soon in trouble at forty three for six after ten overs. Mitul and Jim steadied the ship and soon Minehead had a game on their hands. Mitul opened up him arms & began to let loose as he blasted his way to fifty (which included seven fours and a six) with Jim giving him ample support as he went on to thirty nine (which included five fours). A glimmer of hope could be seen as they scored seventy six in the next ten overs. But victory was soon dashed when they both departed as they chased this mighty score and the game was finally sealed when the last hurrah by Ali who scored a quick fire twenty four (which included two fours and two sixes) was ended.
Well done Minehead for an excellent game which was played with fun and spirit. Phoenix this time were outclassed by a better side but a round of applause for a worthy fight.
