Porlock v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sat 15 Jul 2006 at 2.30pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 7 wickets
Match report
Cradled snugly in a glorious amphitheatre, with the hills of Exmoor rising steeply on three sides of it, lies Porlock. To the north the Bristol Channel provides breathtaking views along the coast and across to Wales, in all other directions is Exmoor, with its heather covered moors cut by deep, often wooded, combes with clear sparkling streams.
The tour of duty called and many virgin 'tour' soldiers were taken to the battle front once again as Jason led his troops to Porlock for the third of four games. A scorcher of a day welcomed both teams with the battle worn team recovering from the wounds of a late night looking for their first win.
An idyllic ground surrounded by hills was a picturesque sight but once Jason examined the pitch he knew we entered a minefield. Porlock won the toss and to the surprise of us al elected to bat first.
Mitul and Ali opened up with pace and with the pitch being so unpredictable became very hostile. Under this barrage the Porlock batsman began to fall with ease as Phoenix took control. Ali in his second over took a hat-trick as he charged in with pace and terrorised the batsman with bounce & movement. The game was all but over in the fourth over as Porlock were three down and posting only two runs.
After that the pressure on the Porlock was too great as they faced some excellent bowling in which Mitul (who ended with three wickets) and Sanj (with two) finished off the Porlock innings in the seventeenth over for just forty nine runs.
Phoenix came out to bat and within nine overs completed victory with Zahir hitting twenty three not out which included four fours.
Well done Phoenix for a professional job.
Porlock went home but Phoenix with so much time to spare decided to have a fun pairs game amongst each other were each pair faced three overs. The results of which were as follows:
Gold Medal to Fabian and Darius with forty one runs
Second - Sanj and Zee with thirty six
Third - Indi and Shiv with twenty nine
Fourth - Noman and Jason with nineteen
Fifth - Jim and Vishal with ten
Wooden Spoon to Tushar and Ali with zero
