Chertsey CC v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 27 Aug 2006 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 8 wickets
Match report
The word "Trinity" comes from "Trinitas", a Latin abstract noun that most literally means "three-ness" or, simply put, "three are one". The Greek term used for the Christian Trinity is ÔñéÜò (a set of three or the number three) and the Sanskrit word "Trimurti".
This time, in Jason's absence, Sanjeev took charge at the helm and a warm day welcomed Phoenix's third captain of the season. The short journey took the Phoenix wanderers to the picture perfect of a ground at Chertsey and on winning the toss the skipper had no hesitation to bat on what looked like a perfect batting strip.
With three guests playing and the team being without its run scorers of the Savrimuttu's and Vapiwala's Phoenix faced a tough challenge. From the off the Phoenix batsmen never looked comfortable and thus never settled in to a grove through out their innings. The batsmen were too often playing & missing and when the bad balls came they didn't get punished.
The shot selection was poor has all the Phoenix batsman gave their wickets away, has they struggled to make runs, producing both lazy and bad shots.
With the highest partnership being fifty five in sixteen overs and the highest score being that off extras with thirty eight, Phoenix succumbed to being bowled out for just one hundred and thirty two off just thirty three overs. The wickets were shared by the Chertsey bowlers has eight out of nine bowlers used took wickets.
After tea Phoenix needed to bowl & field well and with some luck needed the Chertsey batsmen to have an off day. This was not to be has Chertsey easily chased down the runs with fifteen overs to spare with Eagle making a splendid sixty eight. A special mention to Rahul who fielded brillantly and topped his performance with an excellent catch in the deep where he made lots of ground to get to the ball and a final mention to the skipper who sprained his ankle & had to hobble off for the final few overs.
Well Done to Chertsey for their performance, banter & hospitality. See you next year.
As for Phoenix, a lacklustre performance was produced which was lacking in both brilliance and vitality thus deserving the defeat.
