Old Owens v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 20 May 2012 at 14:00
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets
Match report
The English Summer has set in with another cold and overcast day welcoming the team to a new fixture versus Old Owens in Potters Bar. Kully led his Bhangra Boys on a M25 journey with particularly less traffic than as per usual and on arrival we were informed we are to play on the main square. Kully won the toss and elected to bat first on a belter of a track and for the first time in a long time Phoenix had a batting & bowling line up to be proud off thus the team were confident.
The Avengers Assemble is a marvel film with the basis premise of the story being that the Asgardian Loki encounters the Other, the leader of an alien race known as the Chitauri. In exchange for retrieving the Tesseract, a powerful
energy source of unknown potential, the Other promises Loki a Chitauri army with which he can subjugate the Earth. In response Nick Fury, director of the espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D., reactivates the "Avengers Initiative". The Assemble are Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye.
The Phoenx Assemble batted well as they scored two hundred and eleven off their allotted overs. Kully looked steady as he hit forty three runs which included four fours, Sethi was flowing with three fours early doors until he lost his wicket, Harjit walloped his way to forty five runs which included five fours and three sixes, Baljit bashed his way to thirty eight runs which included two fours and a six and finally Juggy swung his way to an effective twenty two runs which included two sixes. At tea, Phoenix were feeling that they let the cat out of the bag since we should have scored more runs as on reflection wickets fell to catches deep on the boundary at crucial times. Phoenix batsman got a start but never went onto score a fifty.
The team came out on the field and 'something was missing' and it seems that Phoenix had lost their own Tesseract as energy levels were down with the fielders & bowlers never reaching their potential. Old Owens openers took them to victory quite easily as one hit a brilliant hundred and the other a solid seventy two.
The man of the match award goes to Juggy for his performance with both bat and ball and the half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Fabian for talking to the scorer for thirty eight overs.
Well done to Old Owens who were clinical in their approach, who did the basic rights and had the energy on the field to lift their game. As for Phoenix, they were not at the races today as they let victory slip by. Our biggest problem seems to be our energy level. When that's alright, we have the potential to play really good.”
To quote Harold S. Geneen (American Businessman, He was CEO of ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph) (1959-77), 1910-1997) "Performance stands out like a ton of diamonds. Non performance can always be explained away.”
