Godalming v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 01 Jul 2012 at 14:00
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 8 wickets
Match report
A bright sunny morning awoke the Phoenix players but it seemed odd that with rain everywhere why the sun was shining. The Bhangra Boys arrived at the ground in drips & drabs and with Kully stuck on the motorway Fabian was left in charge. With the clouds slowly hovering overby Fabian in a bizzare move decided to bowl first. As Good as It Gets (1997) is a James L. Brooks film with Jack Nicholson and is about a single mother/waitress, a misanthropic author, and a gay artist who form an unlikely friendship after the artist is in an accident.
The day was Good as it gets for Phoenix when everything we did went right. The rain faded away and a late sunny afternoon prevailed. Kully arived to the game late but no issues as Fabian won the toss and elected to bowl first. Fabian opened the bowling with Sanj and he then took 2 wickets in the first over with one being with the very first ball of the match. All catches were heldm stumpings taken and seems no one misfield-ed either. After tea, all the batsman scored runs with ease as Phoenix chased the score down in 18.2 overs.
After the debacle performances of recent times, seems like everyone has been listening to Lil Wayne 'Mirror' and made a conscious effort to improve themselves:
Uh, With everything happening today
You don't know whether you're coming or going
But you think that you're on your way
Life lined up on the mirror, don't blow it (Whoo!)
Look at me when I'm talking to you
You lookin' at me, but I'm lookin' through you
I see the blood in your eyes
I see the love in disguise
I see the pain hidden in your pride
I see you're not satisfied
And I don't see nobody else
I see myself
The man of the match award and the half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Kully for turning up late, which meant Fabian was captain for one over, which meant Fabian rang in the bowling changes & elected to open the bowling with Sanj, which meant Sanj took a wicket with his first ball of the match, which meant that Godalming posted a modest & getable total.
Well done to Godalming who always are execellant hosts and love to banter with us guys. As for Phoenix, a pefect day as the team showed tenacity. Winston Churchill did say "“They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds.” But then again a beautiful thing is never perfect.
To quote Louis Pasteur (French Chemist and Microbiologist, 1822-1895) “Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity”
