Phoenix Cricket Club Won 2 wickets
Match report
Pendulum - is a weight on the end of a mass less string, which, when given an initial push, will swing back and forth under the influence of gravity over its central (lowest) point. If and only if the pendulum swings through a small angle the motion may be approximated as simple harmonic motion.
Orchestra - is an instrumental ensemble, usually fairly large with string, brass, woodwind sections, and possibly a percussion section as well.
The quest for our elusive first victory gathers pace as Phoenix travel the short distance to Perivale for a match against Metropolitan Railway. With last weeks game being washed out it gave everyone a break and a chance to reflect on what was happening to the team in terms of performance. The spirit was strong but the sense of non-achievement was creeping in to the thoughts of many. Thus today was an important day and Phoenix needed to find answers to overcome their personal demons and show to all the ability, spirit and comradeship that Phoenix posses in abundance.
A warm day welcomed both teams and on winning the toss, our skipper captain had no hesitation in asking the opposition to bat first. On debut for Phoenix were Faisan and Asad.
Farhan (Rowdy) and Faisan opened the bowling for Phoenix with great lines, lengths & movement. The control was slightly astray with the Metropolitan Railway's openers punishing the bad balls. They bowled without luck with a couple of sharp chances put down and the Pendulum swung in favour of the batsman as they looked in control as they passed fifty off ten overs.
The pendulum then swung into Phoenix's favour when Faisan made the breakthrough. Off his bowling the batman a hit the ball with pace into midwicket when Vishal leaped into the air like a flying squirrel taking a magnificent one handed catch over his head. Vishal's was prepared as he had researched this phenomena for the following paper was found in his bag - Three-dimensional launch kinematics in leaping, parachuting and gliding squirrels as written by Richard L. Essner, Jr (Department of Biological Sciences, Ohio University, Athens, OH 45701, USA) on 23 May 2002.
This ignited the Phoenix who then blazed in their own glory. The catching improved with Sanj & Nad taking simple chances of their own bowling, with Zee being safe as houses taking two chances in the slip with consummate ease and with Shiv whose nickname buckets came into use as he held onto a ferocious hit at deep mid-on. The ground fielding continued to excel especially with Tushar, Indi and Asad running & diving saving singles and preventing boundaries.
Sanj & Nad bowled well bamboozling the Metropolitan Railway with their variety in change of pace, bounce and turn. Metropolitan Railway slipped from fifty for one in the tenth over to being finally dismissed for one hundred and thirty seven in the thirteenth over with Nad finishing with four wickets and Sanj with five.
At tea Phoenix needed to bat well in order to win the game.
Zee and Tushar opened the batting but Phoenix had a slight hic-cup as Tushar fell playing the wrong line. Zee and Nad then steadied the ship as they put on thirty three for the next wicket when Zee fell playing across the line for a hard fought fourteen. Asad came and went and Phoenix stuttered at forty eight for three in the thirteenth over. Nad and Shiv held firm and continually ticking the score board over with singles & two as they scored thirty eight between them. Nad luck ran out and he was caught at cover for a fortuitous twenty eight. Phoenix at this stage were eighty six for four off twenty one overs.
Indi and Shiv continued to lay the foundation and eased the score past one hundred. The pendulum then swung into Metropolitan Railway's favour when Phoenix lost three wickets for three runs in two overs with Shiv mistiming a pull for a gritty twenty five and Jason & Vishal both getting a beauty of a delivery without troubling the scoreboard. At this stage Phoenix needed twenty nine to win with only three wickets in hand off twelve overs.
Indi & Faisan made a sixteen runs in the next three overs when Indi holed out at cover with Phoenix needing only twelve to win. Indi battled away ten overs scoring thirty nine runs with his three partners which has led Mr Tony the ice-cream man on Byron Avenue to sponsor him as Indi runs like he has an ice-cream cone in his had instead of a bat.
The difference between winning and losing at this stage was how the young duo of Faisan and Rowdy handled the pressure. After a nervy start and some quick singles the young lads didn't disappoint as Faisan played a brilliant cover drive to tie the game. Then Phoenix came through as Rowdy hit the winning runs with seven ours to spare and with that Jason and his Argonauts found the golden fleece of Victory.
Well Done to Metropolitan Railway for a great game. As for Phoenix Jason with baton in hand orchestrated Phoenix's first win of the season as he got all the players to perform and contribute in the roles they were meant to play as they made harmonious music together. A great effort by Phoenix as a team where simply the bowlers bowled well, the fielders fielded well and the batsman batted well.

Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy'.
