Hersham v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 08 Jul 2007 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets
Match report
Battle of the Planets (1978) is the first Westernized adaptation of the 1972 Japanese animated television series known as Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman.
Superlative - Of the highest order, quality, or degree.
With all the rain that has been causing havoc with fixtures, Fabian lead the team for the short trip to Hersham. The Phoenix boys were eager and raring to go buoyed by the fact of a good performance against North Maidenhead and the forced rest during the last two weeks.
A warm and sunny day presented itself to both teams and on winning the toss, our skipper invited the opposition to bat first. This game welcomed both Noman and Anup for their first game of the season. The players/characters selected in guarding the teams honour against attack is the invincible & transmutable G-Force who are:
Mark (Battle of the Planets) & Ken Washio (Gatchaman) aka Fabian Saverimuttu & Sanjeev Kumar
Jason (Battle of the Planets) & Joe Asakura (Gatchaman) aka Noman Sohail & Nad Rashid
Princess (Battle of the Planets) & Jun (Gatchaman) aka Shiv Sud & Rahul Ghai
Keyop (Battle of the Planets) & Jinpei (Gatchaman) aka Imran Khursheed & Tushar Ilwahdi
Tiny Harper (Battle of the Planets) & Nakanishi (Gatchaman) aka Faizan Shah & Anup Jhooti
7-Zark-7 (Battle of the Planets) aka Kashif Ihsan
Skipper called Transmute and the G-Force amalgamate into a flaming bird-shaped craft called the Phoenix. The Phoenix was rearing to go.
Tiny Harper & Nakanishi opened the bowling with pace, line and movement and soon had the Hersham in trouble. Tiny Harper made the break through in the first over with a peach of delivery that cut in and clipped the bails.
Chris and Warren then settled in and started to up the tempo. Warren was seeing the ball well and hit two huge sixes but Nakanishi got the prize wicket in the last over of his spell. Nakanishi bowled beautifully conceding only seventeen runs of his allotted eight overs.
Hersham at drinks were sixty nine for three of twenty overs. Mark and Ken Washio then slowed the scoring rate down as they bowled with variations and guile conceding only fifty one runs of their sixteen over spell. Ken Washio ended up with two wickets as 7-Zark-7 took a brilliant catch at point and Tiny Harper at short extra cover.
Unfortunately nerves got the better of 7-Zark-7 who lost his line & length and was taken for some runs. Jun and Jinpei bowled at the death with Jun taking his first wicket for Phoenix as Joe Asakura collected a skier with ease.
Hersham finally finished on a gettable one hundred and seventy eight. Phoenix needed a good start in order to win the game. A special mention for the fielding of Phoenix who battled hard till the end and to Joe Asakura who kept for the first time for Phoenix and conceded only four byes.
Mark and Jason opened the batting and gave Phoenix the perfect start. Jason was in fluid form but was eventually put for a quick fire seventeen. The partnership was thirty six runs in five overs.
Joe Asakura came in and with Mark continuing the run fest. Mark then took responsibility of the scoring and made an excellent thirty two. The partnership was fifty one runs in eight overs.
The Princess joined Joe Asakura who was finally out for a supberb twenty seven. The partnership was thirty runs in seven overs.
Princess & Jun then settled down and played safe so to keep away the Predictable/Infamous Cricket Collapse. They both played sublime cricket with Princess losing his wicket when on a brilliant thirty six and Jun unfortunately getting run out as he looked settled at fourteen. The partnership was thirty nine runs in twelve overs.
Keyop & Jinpei took Phoenix to the finish line as Keyop hit a boundary for the winning runs with five overs to spare. They were both unbeaten on thirteen and two respectively.
Well done to Hersham for a great game. As for Phoenix a brilliant display where everyone was involved in the win be it taking a catch, taking wickets or making runs. A brilliant display of Teamwork and a final mention to Zee who biked an hour from Hounslow to Hersham just to support the team.
The superlatives used such as sublime, fluid, excellant, superb & brilliant are not an exaggeration of what was achieved today but an emphasis on how good a perfomance the team gave in order to win the game.
