Sanj continuig his role as stand-in captain led Phoenix to the short trip to Kempton. This fixture is a special event since Kempton were Phoenix's first ever game as well as many of the ex-Kempton players (Fabian, Nad, Noman & Zee) returning to play amongst friends. A reunion of sort where friendship, banter and good cricket are key to having fun and enjoying the day.

A miracle of sorts occurred when Sanj won his first toss of the season and had no hesitation in opting to bat first on what was a beautiful batting track with an electric fast outfield.

On Friday before the game, the number eight horse Asian Power ridden by O Urbina won the six-twenty race and on the Saturday before the game, the number fifteen horse Magical Music ridden by J Quinn won the three-twenty-five race.

Today win or lose, Phoenix had Asian Power in their ranks who wanted to play magical music with their batting willows.

Fabian took the game to Kempton from the very first ball as played a sublime cover drive for four. He continued his sumptious form as he played one exquisite stroke after another. This innings alongside that against Barton was Fabian's best performance as he played with technique, timing and intelligence. He was finally out for fifty seven (which included nine fours and a six) and a special mention to Fabian for passing the six hundred runs for the season thus far.

Phoenix then lost quick wickets and at eighty six for four after twenty three overs Phoenix were under pressure to produce. In came Imran and with Nad they upped the tempo and took Phoenix to respectability as they scored ninety seven runs in the next sixteen overs. Imran powered his way to an excellent forty one (which included five fours and one six) as he batted with responsibilty as well as aggression.

Nad played intelliegntly and with grit as he grafted his way to his maiden Phoenix fifty scoring a superb fifty four (which included five fours). Also a specail mention to Nad for becoming the first player to be on the hall of fame for both his batting and bowling contributions.

At tea, Kempton needed one hundred and ninety to win with Phoenix needing to take their chances if victory was to be theirs.

Zee and Tushar opened the bowling and soon found their line & length. Zee in paricular bowled with great control but without luck as he conceded only twenty six runs off his eight over spell.

An old addage is that catches win matches and unfortunately Phoenix let themselves down in the field as they spilled a total of seven chances with four against Ellis off Nad's bowling. Ellis took his chance with a well made seventy seven and Kempton raced to the finish line with three overs and seven wickets to spare. A special mention to Sanj for getting to thirty wickets for the season thus far.

Well done to Kempton for an excellant victory and being great hosts. As for Phoenix, its better to have lost against friends than winning against the enemy.
