Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 198 runs
Match report
Order of the Phoenix - within the Harry Potter wizarding universe, is an organisation founded by Albus Dumbledore to counter Dark wizard Voldemort and his followers, the Death Eaters,
In the world of cricket, the order of the phoenix went to Barton's Ministry of Magic ground in search of victory.. The order that was selected for battle were as follows:
Sirius Black aka Sanj, Dumbledore aka Fabian, Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody aka Anup, Remus Lupin aka Shiv, Nymphadora Tonks aka Yazdan, Rubeus Hagrid aka Imran, Minerva McGonagall aka Indi, Sturgis Podmore aka Tushar, Arthur Weasley aka Faizan and Kingsley Shacklebolt aka Rahul.
So on to the final game of the tour as a warm day welcomed both teams and on winning the toss the opposition captain elected to bat first. Sanj, who was standing in as skipper for the injured Fabian, knew he had a tough day ahead.
Like Lord Voldermort, who wanted to destroy the Order of The Phoenix, the opposition captain decided to put his five first eleven batsman in the first five batting positions including an ex-Pakistani International Imran Abbass. Barton won the battle convincingly as they posted a mammoth score of three hundred and seventy four with the loss of three wickets. The audacity was so pompous that they infact declared their innings with ten balls remaining.
The difference in class was obvious as the good deliveries, which there were plenty, and the bad deliveries, which there were few and far between, went for fours and sixes. The Phoenix highlights were Fabian's direct hit run out from the point boundary, Imran's skier of a catch and a magic ball by Sanj that was caught behind by Indi. Remarkably this was Indi's first catch for Phoenix.
Today was not a matter of winning since defeat was inevitable but today was about pride and showing the opposition the true sense of victory in terms of sportsmanship, enjoyment and above all fun.
Surprise surprise Barton opened up with their first eleven bowlers and soon after had people patrolling the deep cover and midwicket boundaries. This didn't matter a tiny bit to Fabain and Rahul who got Phoenix of to a flyer of a start scoring fifty four runs in the opening six overs. At this point even the Barton skipper look worried thinking he was about to lose the game.
Fabian played a magnificent innings against a first eleven side who wanted to humiliate the Phoenix side. But Fabian had the last laugh as he clubbed and bludgeoned the opening bowlers to all parts of the field as he hit nine fours and five sixes in a final war cry of eighty runs. A special mention to Fabian who passed four hundred runs for the season.
At the loss of his wicket, the Phoenix players all gave it a go and finally were out in the twenty forth over scoring an impressive one hundred and seventy six runs which included seventeen fours and six sixes. That’s over seven runs an over against a first eleven bowling attack - not bad for a weak medium Sunday friendly side.
Well done to Barton on winning the game and a round of applause for Phoenix for a bravado stance not allowing the situation to spoil their day.
It’s a shame that only one side came to play cricket whilst the other side only wanted to win. Barton did win the battle but Phoenix won the war as they were the side who were united, laughing and in a joyous mood.
