Old Isleworthians & Heston v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 08 Jun 2008 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 4 wickets

Match report In the 111th Olympiad [336 B.C.] In the third year Alexander met Dareius in battle at Issus in Cilicia, and again defeated him. In Jason's third year in reign nothing of the sort is envisaged but could Jason's Argonauts remain undefeated in their fixture against their old rivals Old Iselworthians & Heston. In fact this fixture was Phoenix's first ever win.

On 12 November, 1642, The Battle of Brentford took place between a cavalry detachment of the Royalist army under the command of Prince Rupert and two cavalry regiments of Parliamentarian forces. The result was a victory for the Royalists.

In US baseball, the Spartans advanced to the fourth round where they will now face the undefeated Phoenix of Elon. Game time was slated for 1pm on Saturday.

On Sunday at 2pm here in the UK, Jason led Phoenix of Cranford the short distance along the A4 for to re-enact its own Battle of Isleworth.

A hot day welcomed all and sundry. Jason won the toss and surprisingly decided to field first, in this timed match, much to the confusion to all but Jason had leant on his experience and seen something everyone had not. Did he have a trick up his sleeve - time would only tell if the decision was the right one or not.

The Old Iselworthians & Heston (OIH) came to the crease and soom were welcomed with some excellent pace & swing bowling from Farhan and Ali. Ali bowled a beautiful length with Farhan bowling with great movement that the OIH batsmen could not put the bowling away and they struggled to find the gaps.

The first breakthrough came as a run out with some great thinking and throw by Nad. Jason, who dived to take the throw, collected brilliantly and took the stumps.

Ali after a fine initial burst was replaced by Kashif who also continued to bowl well. Farhan bowled a mamomth fourteen over spell in which he conceded only thirty sevens runs and he also took the prized wicket of D.Hirst. The quick bowlers had kept the bowling tight and the run rate was struggling at three runs an over.

Jason the introduced the spinners as time was running out for the OIH batsman to make runs and the magic trick worked as they took five wickets in thirteen overs and conceding only fifty six runs. The pick was Nad who ripped out the middle order with four wickets at the cost of only eighteen runs. The ground fielding was impressive as Jason, Fabian and Tushar held onto their catches and everyone were on their toes preventing the quick singles.

The OIH captain, Sagaar, made a last big effort and hit twenty one of just three overs and at tea Phoenix needed one hundred and forty five to win the game.

Phoenix came out to bat knowing a good start before the final twenty overs began was required. Phoenix got off to the worst possible starts as they lost both Zee and Noman as early as the second over. Fabian and Tushar then slowly but surely settled things down and began to make inroads into the OIH score. With solid defense and punishment of the bad ball to the boundary, they broke their own Highest third Wicket partnership as they scored seventy seven runs in nineteen overs.

At twenty overs, Phoenix needed seventy nine to win. Tushar was then out after a hard grafted twenty and soon after Phoenix had lost Fabian for a stunning sixty two (which included nine fours and a six). Like BT whose values is to be commited to create ways to help customers thrive in a changing world. Thus Fabian continues his cricketing commitment as he thrives to change the way Phoenix play cricket by creating a batting spectacle for all to enjoy and reproduce in their own way.

With the fall of two quick wickets, Nad took the responsibility to take Phoenix home. Nad batted beautifully as he cut and pulled to a sublime thirty nine not out (which included six fours and a six) as he and with the help of both Ali and Shiv took Phoenix on the verge of victory as only six runs were needed to win with five overs remaining.

Like UPS whose value is to remain ever true to its humble origins, the company maintains its reputation for integrity, reliability, employee ownership, and customer service. Thus Jason delivered on time as he hit the winning runs to seal victory. His reputation was hightened as his decision to bat first proved to be the right one.

Fabian batted with stupendous class as he once again laid the platform for a Phoenix win and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Nad for passing ten wickets for the season thus far.

In the soaring heat of the day well done to both teams for battling hard to the very end and thank you to OIH for being hospitable hosts. As for Phoenix, keep on being focused and seek improvement so to maintain this success. Success for Phoenix is playing cricket in the manner it should be - with spirit and with enjoyment. To quote Denis Waitley (American motivational Speaker and Author of self-help books. b.1933) “Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer”.
