Scorecard

Chobham v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 17 May 2015 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 8 runs

Match report We beat Chobham by 8 runs. A sunny day welcomed both teams and as per usual these days Sanj lost the toss & we were asked to bat first. We lost Kully early and soon after Sethi joined him in the pavillion. Prince played some aggressive cricket as he pushed on with the score with Fabian. We were looking comfortable when we lost Prince who was out after he made a hard fought 46 which included 8 fours. Fabian was then triggered LBW after he inside edged the ball on to his pad and all of a sudden we were 103 for 4 off 22 overs. Nad & Rowdy steadied the ship and soon after were scoring freely again but we lost them both in successive overs as we reached 175 for 6 in 36 overs. Nad made 22 (with 4 fours) and Rowdy batted positively & sensibly to score 47 (5 fours and a six). We then lost Babbu, Sakhil & Mannu in four balls and ended up with 189 on the board at tea. Was this enough as 200 plus looked possible.

After tea, we needed to bowl well if we wanted to win. We got off to the perfect start as both Rowdy & Sakhil bowled with consistant line & length as we reduced the scoring and took wickets. Sanj bowled a beauty with flight, turn & bounce and with Prince with his top glove work they managed to stump Chobham's dangerous overseas South African batsman Shamin. We were on top as Chobham limped to 51 for 3 in 15 overs.

Then the game swang back into Chobham's favour as they began to find the boundaries with ease as they found a groove and even punished the good bowling. At 30 overs they were 151 for 3 and needed only 39 to win with 10 overs & 7 wickets in hand.

Then the magic happened and the game swang back into our favour. Rowdy bowled the dangerous Orme on 64 with a top inswing delivery from around the wicket and then Nad bowled a beauty to get out the last recognised batsman. Sanj then in his last over got out the steady opener who was slowly ticking the scoreboard over.

Mannu & Sakhil had to bowl the last four overs with Chobham needing 25 to win with 2 wickets remaining. Sakhil got his yorker going restricted the scoring with ease and at this stage his figures were 6 overs for 7 runs but his 7th over went for 11 but importantly we got a run out. Chobham needed 11 runs to win with 2 overs and 1 wicket. Mannu bowled with accurary & pace as he took the final wicket for victory off the last ball of his spell.

A brilliant game enjoyed by everyone and we came out worthy winners at the end.
