Hampton Wick Royal v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 31 May 2015 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 53 runs
Match report
Beat Hampton Wick Royal by 53 runs. The weather threatened to the abandon the match but the sun came out to save the day. We waited an hour for things to dry up and the captains decided on a 30 over game since we had already lost alot of time and disappointingly the HWR tea person refused to turn up thinking that the game would be called off. On winning the toss, Sanjeev elected to bat first - being cloudy, wet, windy & cold made it an easy decision.
We lost Prince & Sethi early but then Kully & Raman steadied the ship as they began to score easily. The outfield was wet so on a normal days most of their shots would have reached the boundary but today their fitness was tested as they had to run most of them. Kully batted with ease until he got out out after hitting his first four of his innings to a beautiful legspin delivery which beat him in both flight & turn. Raman then continued to plunder the bowling as he started to hit big to reach the boundary line, he made an excellant 66 (which included 4 fours and 3 sixes) before he fell. The lower order batted away and Sakhil hit the shot of the day, a lovely hit for six over the long off boundary, as we ended up with 171 off our alloted overs.
We bowled to our plans with the opening quicks mindful of the field placement remained discipline with their both lines & lengths. Rowdy & Sakhil's opening spell just cost 36 runs off their 12 overs. Mannu was then inspired and he bowled beautifully as he both took wickets and stemmed the runs from flowing, with his 6 overs only going for 16 runs. The final 6 overs of the day just needed everyone to do the basics right which we did as 5 wickets fell as we bowled, caught and ranout the opposition. Babbu's form in the field was superb once again and he is the standard we should be matching ourselves too as he took 2 catches, created a runout and ran giving his all.
Special mention to Kully for passing the 3000 run mark for the club today.
The laugh of the day was invoked when Kully going through Rowdy's bag thinking it was Sanj's found some unmentionable but funny items!! The team were in stitches and it took a best part of 5 minutes for everyone to calm down. Brilliant.
Statistically the leading players this season are as follow:
Kully - 415 runs
Prince - 236 runs
Sanj - 19 wickets
Rowdy - 14 wickets
