Grafham & Smithbrook v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 07 Jun 2015 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 152 runs
Match report
Beat Grafham & Smithbrook by 152 runs. A lovely little ground and a glorious sun welcomed both teams for this fixture but as we went to inspect the wicket something appeared to be odd. The wickets infact were not in line and confusion thus rained upon us. After a few seconds everyone calmed down awe got on with what we were meant to be doing and that is playing cricket. The Grafham & Smithbrook skipper won the toss and decided that Phoenix should first make use of the wicket.
Kully and Prince got us off to a perfect start with a 107 opening stand in just 15 overs which is their third of the year thus far. Kully was on fire and played sublimely well has his form has been showing all season - he even wipped a ball of his legs to the boundary!! Kully hit both the good and bad bowling with equal measure as he went onto an impressive 10th century for the club in just 65 balls which included 14 fours and 3 sixes. Sethi must have been inspired on what he had seen as he battered & bruised his way to an excellent 82 in just 68 balls which included 9 fours and 3 sixes.
At tea we made 278 off our alloted overs and knew we just needed to do the basics well to win the game. Our triads of pace Rowdy, Sakhil & Mannu make a formindable team especailly when the wicket does just enough to assist the quicks. The game was soon under control in the first few overs as Rowdy & Sakhil took early wickets and then Mannu stemmed the run rate with pace & bounce. Sakhil was the pick of the bowling and on an another day he would have had 5 or 6 instead of this 3. The game was all but wrapped up and the skipper gave the non-regular bowlers a go with Vipen ending up with figures of 2 overs, 2 maidens and 2 wickets.
I will not mention the dropped catches and some of them were doddles but I lost count at about 10!! This we need to improve but the ground fielding was impressive as standards are slowly getting raised.
Statistically the leading players this season are as follow:
Kully - 515 runs
Prince - 272 runs
Sanj - 20 wickets
Rowdy - 15 wickets
