Magdalen v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 19 Jun 2016 at 2pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Drew against Magdalen. A cold & overcast day welcomed both teams and on losing the toss Phoenix were asked to bowl first in this timed match. Magdalen had Wendel captaining them and after 46 overs they went into tea 238 for 9. Nothing more can be said but Sanjeev was at his best taking 7 wickets and which included his first ever hattrick. All three wickets were catches, the first by Jay at Midwicket, the second by Jeeta at Midoff & the third by Sethi at ShortLeg. His figures were 18 overs 3 maidens 7 for 86.

Phoenix came out to bat with confidence that they could chase the score down but every time we got on top we constantly lost wickets. This in the end cost us plus receiving only 37 overs cost us victory as we ended up 25 runs short of victory. The crucial wickets we list during the chase were as follows:

•Vishal who was out in the 16th over with score on 79 - he had scored 38 off 30 balls which included 5 fours & a six. He was looking in sublime form as he pulled and drove with ease before over confidence got him out playing the wrong shot to a good length delivery.

•Sethi who was out in the 20th over with score on 100 - he had scored 40 off 47 balls which included 6 fours. He battled his way showing glimpses of his class but a lost of concentration got him out playing the right shot badly.

•Baljit who was out in the 26th over with score on 140 - he had scored 26 off 29 balls which included 4 fours. Managed to start a partnership with Jeeta and his quick running is a gift as he rotated the strike well. Was it a bad shot or just an incorrect decision by the umpire that resulted in his wicket falling?

•Hitesh who was out in the 31st over with score on 170 - he had scored 13 off 13 balls which included one four. Again managed to start a partnership with Jeeta but instead of rotating the strike and he started trying to hit big caused his downfall.

Jeeta tried to keep the runs flowing but slowly run out of partners and criminally was kept off the strike for nearly 3 overs. He was at his fluent best and was not out at the end scoring 53 off 41 balls which included 6 fours & a six.

Statistically the leading players at the end of season are as follow:
