Old Pauline's v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 24 Jul 2016 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 8 wickets
Match report
Beat Old Paulines by 8 wickets. A lovely day welcomed both teams and with Sanjeev Kumar watching from the sidelines the pressure was on for the boys to entertain. Sethi Singh lost the toss and the Old Paulines skipper decided to bat first.
Old Paulines batted with ease but never truly accelerated their innings. Old Paulines ended on 198 off their 40 overs and we were pleased as we were thinking we would be chasing 220 plus. Harman took a wicket on debut, with Jay taking 2,
Vikas Haripuriya taking 1 and Rinku taking a catch & a runout.
What happened next was a breath of fresh air as both Jay Dhillon & Ramanjit Singh Lall went after the bowling with an aggression & brutality that we haven't seen since the Fabian days.
They made 126 runs in just 14 overs for the opening wicket and gave us the perfect start for a run chase. Rinku batted beautifully with splendid timing for 70 which included 12 fours when he fell with the score on 126. Jay batted brilliantly with
brute power for 90 which included 11 fours & 2 sixes when we fell with the score on 189. It's a shame the scorer didn't count the number of balls faced since that balls to run ratio would have been impressive.
Vishal Kumar scored the winning runs with his trade mark fluency of an exquisite cover drive followed up by sumptuous straight drive. We chased the score down in just 22 overs.
We were well entertained and with that the beers began to flow and rib-tickling non-stop jokes continued to make us laugh raucously for quite a while. This is what the game is about and why we all love to play.
Statistically the leading players at the end of season are as follow:
Jay - 551 runs
Prince - 362 runs
Mannu - 29 wickets
Sanj - 23 wickets
