Binfield v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 21 Aug 2016 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 113 runs
Match report
Beat Binfield by 113 runs. Sanjeev Kumar first game after injury due to Shaun Carter attending a BBQ. On losing the toss we were put into bat, a choice I would have agreed too even if I had won the toss.
Prince Kairon & Sethi Singh gave us a great start as they put on 89 for the opening stand. Prince was out in the 16.4 over as he accumulated 35 runs off 48 balls which included 5 fours. Next it was the Sethi & Baljit Suman show as they put on 102 in the next 14 overs and at 191 for 3 after 31 overs we looked good to post a good score. Sethi batted superbly well as he made 103 off 86 balls which included 12 fours & 4 sixes. He showed his class & looks like his old form was back as he cut & drove with simplicity & grace. Babbu smashed & ran his way to 68 off 63 balls which included 4 fours & 3 sixes. In the past few weeks he had shown consistency and is in a rich vein of form with scores of 33, 41, 33 & now 68.
At tea, we were sitting comfortably at 265 but knew the opposition had 2 or 3 gun batsman in their ranks. Binfield after a slowish start began to find their tempo and upped their scoring rate. With rain in the air it was going to good effort by either team to win. Harman Johal took a catch off Vikas Haripuriya bowling & made a run out got us back in the game & after the rain break Mannu Singh bowled brilliantly to as he got the wickets of their two key batsman.
Babbu had a runout and Prince took a stumping off Rajat's bowling and Binfield were 7 down with 152 on the scoreboard. After 27.3 the Binfield skipper called it a day as he re-injured his injury that cost him the early part of the season.
We look forward in playing them again on Sat 24 September, hopefully the weather doesn't ruin what was an exciting game.
Statistically the leading players at the end of season are as follow:
Jay - 737 runs
Sethi - 453 runs
Mannu - 35 wickets
Sanj - 23 wickets
