Bagshot v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 11 Sep 2016 at 12.30pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
Beat Bagshot by 6 wickets. Seems like the perfect day & the perfect conditions to play cricket as the late Indian Summer came to pass. Sanjeev Kumar was selected but unselected himself for Shaun Carter as his back was playing up and maybe due to having too much off a good time at a wedding reception the night before.
Sethi Singh lost the toss and we were asked to the enjoy the conditions & bowl first. Farhan Nabeel & Mannu Singh soon had Bagshot in trouble at 54 for 4 with 2 wickets each. We took our foot of the gas but soon enough Bagshot got on top of the game and unexpectedly we were on the back foot. It was a batting track with the ball coming into the
bat and with a beautifully fast outfield there were runs a plenty on offer. Bagshot tucked in but Phoenix had a few flurry of wickets at the end as we restricted the opposition to 233 off their 45 overs. At tea, Phoenix needed to bat sensibly and in depth if we wanted to win the game.
We got off to a great start as Jay Dhillon & Jeeta Dhillon smashed 77 off just 10 overs. Jeeta made 35 off 46 balls which included 3 fours & 2 sixes. Then at 89 for 2, Harman Johal and Jay put on 104 and took us close to the winning margin. Jay batted brilliantly as he smashed the bowling to all parts of the ground as he scored 108 off just 80
balls that included 17 fours & 3 sixes. We had a panic as we lost Jay & Vishal Kumar, who is going through a lean time with the bat, in the same over. As they say Vishal, form is temporary and class is permanent. Harman steadied the ship and with BaBa Bunty Tejvir sailed us to victory.
Harman batted with maturity and a level head as he made 59 off 46 balls which included 4 fours & 2 sixes. Bunty had a hard fought innings where concentration not to give the big heave-ho was paramount in this thoughts. Luckily he didn't.
