Bank of England v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sat 11 Jun 2016 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 4 wickets
Match report
Beat Bank of England by 4 wickets. A excellent win over Bank of England by 4 wickets as the guys produced a performance when it mattered the most. On an overcast day that threatened rain, Sanjeev Kumar to the surprise of the opposing captain and his own teammates, elected to bowl first. As it was a timed match, experience says bowl first as you can control the game better. Mannu Singh bowled with pace & took 3 wickets, BaBa Bunty Tejvir & Daniel Bearfoot-Fallon took some top catches, Hitesh Pabari surprised us all with his gentle away swing and Baljit Suman, Vikas Haripuriya & Raj ground fielding was top draw. Sanjeev was the pick of the bowling with 6 for 48 as he rekindled his guile and magic of old.
At tea, we were chasing 203 for victory.
Prince Kairon & Sethi Singh gave us a perfect start to the run chase as they made 56 off 13.1 overs when Sethi was out after making a solid 31 off 40 balls which included 5 fours. Vishal Kumar came in next and after a nervy start found his flow and then the confidence seeped through. He batted beautifully as he hit 50 off just 37 balls that included 10 fours, his trademark lofted straight drive and whip through midwicket were in full affect. Vishal & Prince put on 89 in just 13.1 overs when Vishal got out. At 145 for 1 we were looking comfortable but began to lose wickets as in the next 10 overs lost 5 wickets for 54 runs. It got a bit nervy as we needed 5 from the last over. Prince was there from the beginning and held his bat leading the players off the ground in victory. He made a brilliant 80 off 92 balls which included 12 fours as he held the innings together & mustered the middle order to keep strike. A fabulous knock that saw us home with 4 balls to spare as he balanced defence & aggression excellently.
Statistically the leading players at the end of season are as follow:
Jay - 372 runs
Prince - 258 runs
Mannu - 18 wickets
Sanj - 15 wickets
