Binfield v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sat 24 Sep 2016 at 12.30pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 4 wickets
Match report
Lost by 4 wickets. Sanjeev Kumar lost the toss again and without being surprised at all we were asked to bat first. We ended up scoring 228 off our allotted 40 overs and at tea we knew we were at least 30 to 40 runs short of a defendable target. All the batsmen got off to a good start and as soon as they settled in & began to accelerate the innings we lost their wicket. Sethi Singh was out for 23 (inc 3 fours), Ramanjit Singh Lall made 56 (inc 7 fours & 4 sixes off just 27 balls), Harman Johal made 32 (inc 1 six & 1 four), Baljit Singh made 37 (inc 5 fours), BaBa Bunty Tejvir was set when out criminally on the 7th ball of the over, Vikas Haripuriya made 21 (inc 3 fours) and Hitesh Pabari made 10 (inc 1 four).
When we came out to bowl we needed to be on top of our game discipline if we were to win. Tarsem Kumar bowled with line & length, Mannu Singh bowled with pace taking 4 wickets and Bunty showing his class as a spinner with 2 wickets & a 4.5 run economy. Maybe Sanjeev should have bowled himself under the circumstances but the lack of faith from the team & his bad back caused him to resist.
This is the second time we have played them this season and their quality was easy to be seen as their opener came in at 6 and their first team skipper came in at 8. At 170 for 6 with 12 overs to go we thought we were on top but they put on a chance-less 80 run partnership as they eased their way to victory with 11 balls to spare. Today we were out done by the better side but the first game was ours.
This was the last game of a long, fun & successful season so well done to all the team. We won 16, drew 2, lost 8 & 3 were rained off. Onto 2017.
