GSK v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 14 May 2017 at 11am
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 92 runs
Match report
Won by 92 runs. A comfortable win today as all the boys got involved with either the bat, ball or in the field on what was a lovely spring day. With the sun shining Sanjeev Kumar elected to bat first as he won the toss yet again.
We scored 208 off our allotted 35 overs as Jay Dhillon playing his first game of the season gave us an excellent start with a well made 46 off 39 balls which included 6 fours. The scoring revolved around Rajinder Chouhan who constructed his innings beautifully as he led the way from the front with a superb 75 off 74 balls which included 8 fours & 2 sixes. He lost tempo as he in his last 6 overs he scored only 6 runs as the strike was taken away from him; lesson learned by the team is to rotate strike as much as possible.
At tea pizza, chips & coke were served and the boys enjoyed a small picnic in the outfield as the sun ☀️ shone down. We knew if we bowled & fielded well then we had an excellent chance of winning. BaBa Bunty Tejvir & Vikas Haripuriya opened the bowling and soon were creating pressure with disciplined line & length. This forced the batsmen into mistakes and GSK began to lose wickets on a regular basis.
After losing 3 wickets, GSK started to consolidate as their captain & his partner put on 50 with quite some ease. Then the turn around of events happened as Shaun Carter made the breakthrough with an brilliant run out which was his first ever involvement in a wicket for the Phoenix; congratulations & celebration were in order.
Mannu Singh & Sanjeev then took control with pace & guile respectively and bowled GSK out with 11 overs to spare which took us home to victory. Sanjeev reached the historic milestone of 400 wickets, a true statesman for the club.
After the game we all went to celebrate Hitesh Pabari 50th birthday so as always let the whiskey flow. A time for enjoyment for everyone!
