Match report
The third year of Jesus' ministry is sometimes called the "Year of opposition." Some of the community leaders attempted unsuccessfully to challenge Jesus' authority and were becoming increasingly antagonistic. In Jason's third year in reign nothing of the sort is envisaged but could Jason's Argonauts challenge the opposition with great displays of cricket.
Ali Pasha of Tepelen born in 1741 was the ruler (pasha) of the western part of Rumelia, the Ottoman Empire's European territory which was also called European Turkey. His court was in Ioannina. He is also known as the Lion of Yannina as well as a man known for his aggression.
Sir Mohammad Iqbal was a Muslim poet, philosopher and politician, was born in 1877 in Sialkot. His main concentration was on writing scholarly works : Asrar-e-Khudi brought a knighthood for him. He is also known as Iqbāl-e Lāhorī as well as a man known for his poise.
Sanj led the red caps on a beautiful sunny day to the short trip to Hillingdon for another adventure of twenty twenty cricket. On winning the toss the opposition captain elected to make first use of the wicket.
This being the first game after a hectic tour, could Phoenix produce the good cricket they displayed over the previous weekend or would tiredness and indiscipline prevail.
Farhan and Vishal opened the bowling but instead of the usual impeccable pace and movement we have become accustomed to, they were bowling too many long hops. Hillingdon Manor took advantage of this and all of a sudden the Phoenix heads began to drop. The signs of a bad day at the office could be seen as easily as a bright neon lights in Vegas as catches were being dropped, stumpings missed and balls slipping past the fielders to the boundaries.
Ali showed his poise like Mohammad Iqbal and bowled with composure as the Hillingdon Manor batsman went after the bowling and as the Phoenix fielding dropped to below par. Fabian bowled with discipline and was also was let down by the Phoenix fielding.
At the end of the twenty overs, Hillingdon Manor had reached one hundred and sixty six with Heywood scoring a fifty. Phoenix knew they had given them an extra thirty runs at least.
Phoenix came out to bat knowing that they had the batting to win this game but was luck going to be on their side. Fabian in his first over hit a huge six and was ready to rumble. Then disaster struck as a ball going down leg hit his pads and then onto his stumps. The same fate repeated itself to Rahul and soon after Phoenix were fifty four for nine off eleven overs.
Ali and Sanj had nothing to lose but get some pride back. With some aggressive shot making and solid defence they broke their own highest tenth wicket partnership as they scored forty two runs in seven overs. Ali showed aggression like Ali Pasha and smashed & grabbed his way to a well made thirty two (which included five fours).
Phoenix were finally bowled out for ninety six in the eighteenth over and victory was on the side of Hillingdon Manor.
We do not have Ali Pasha or Mohammad Iqbal in our ranks but we do have our own Sher-e Cranfori (Lion of Cranford) aka Ali Iqbal. Ali produced an all round performance with both bat and ball and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Ali for passing one hundred runs for the season thus far.
Well done to Hillingdon Manor for winning as they did not misfield and took every chance they had. This was the difference from winning and losing. As for Phoenix, it is hoped that this fielding performance was just a blip.
To quote Maxwell Maltz (US plastic surgeon, motivational author, and creator of the Psycho-Cybernetics, 1927-2003) "Self-improvement is the name of the game, and your primary objective is to strengthen yourself, not to destroy an opponent”.
