Windsor v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Mon 25 May 2009 at 1.30pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 121 runs

Match report Prior to 1834, the Bank of England observed about thirty-three saints' days and religious festivals as holidays, but in 1834, this was reduced to just four: 1 May, 1 November, Good Friday, and Christmas Day. The Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971, which currently regulates bank holidays was when the Spring Bank Holiday came to be.

So on this very hot and humid bank holiday, Sanj led the Argonautic Legionnaires' to the wonderous ground of Windsor at Home Park opposite Windsor Castle. With Phoenix's Guns of Naverone missing they needed to strong and focused at all times as they faced one of their strongest opponents.

The opposition captain on winning the toss had no hesitation in electing for Phoenix to make most of the sun as he asked Phoenix to field first.

Catch Me If You Can is a 2002 comedy-drama crime film based on the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a Georgia doctor and Louisiana prosecutor. His primary crime was cheque forgery, becoming so skillful that the FBI eventually turned to him for help. Steven Spielberg directed the film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Abagnale, as well as Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Amy Adams, Martin Sheen, and Nathalie Baye.

Windsor had some talented batsmen in their ranks and Phoenix needed to take all the chances they were offered if they wanted to stay in this match. Alas this was not the case as catching seemed not to be everyone's forte.

The Windsor openers were saying 'catch me if you can' as Phoenix spilled five chances given by them and as they say 'catches win matches'. The openers gleefully took their luck and scored seventy two and forty one between them. Windsor then hit Phoenix were it hurts as they scored fifty runs in the final five overs and came off at tea with an impressive two hundred and eighteen to their names.

Phoenix came out to bat and the game was all over as Phoenix slumped to three down by the second over and with no runs yet to be scored. The echos of 'More ducks than a chinese restaurant' came flooding to the minds of the players as Phoenix were finally skitteled out for ninety seven.

Gindi produced a fine display of spin bowling as he kept his cool & reduce the scoring run rate when the Windsor batsman were making hay and for this reason he is named Man of the Match.

Well done to Windsor for being gracious winners. As for Phoenix, a game to forget and hopefully just a blip in what has been a terrific start of the season thus far.

A person who aims at nothing is sure to hit it so to quote Ann F. Lewis (was Senior Advisor for Hillary Clinton for President) “Politicians have the same occupational hazard as generals - focusing on the last battle and overreacting to that.”
