Hillingdon Manor v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Mon 01 Jun 2009 at 6pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 47 runs
Match report
Another hot day and another waiting game at the White Hart. With the majority of the troops arriving late Phoenix still maanged to get to the Hillingdon ground in plenty of time. Maybe luck was on our side with no traffic on route, a quick replacement made with Ali playing as Raaj had to pull out last minute and finally with Fabian winning the toss.
With the omens showing signs of goodness Fabian had no hestitation in batting first as he didnt see any Thorns (Damien) in his line up. Fabian and Tushar got Phoenix to the perfect start as they hit a brillant thirty-one runs off the first 666 (eighteen) balls. After their dismissals, the run rate slowed down as Phoenix and especially Harjot settled in trying to protect their wickets for the final conflict. Phoenix and especially Anuj ended with a perfect finish scoring an amazing thirty-seven runs off the last 666 (eighteen) balls.
Phoenix amassed an excellant one hundred and forty three of their allotted twenty overs with Harjot making a hard fought twenty-nine (which included four fours) and Anuj a dazzling twenty-six (which included four fours and a six). Would Phoenix be the Deccan Chargers or come in second like the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Fabian played his trick card once again as he opened the bowling with Sanj who took two wickets in the third over of Hillingdon's innings with Sofian taking two spectacular catches in the deep. Fabian kept applying the pressure as he pushed Phoenix into good fielding and high intensity. Hillingdon were always up with the run rate but wickets in hand would be the problem. Ali then ripped out the middle order and Fabian mopped up the tail has Hillingdon couldnt find their own Bugenhagen and the seven daggers of Megiddo to stop Phoenix going to victory.
This game showed that Phoenix's Got Talent as they produced a flawless performance but the difference in winning was in our Diversity.
From the song of the Bollywood film 'Chandni Chowk To China' release December 2008:
'O Sapney Dekhe Bade Bade; Badaa Naa Kuch Bhi Karnaaa Pade
Bujhi Bujhi Si Rangat Jiski; Udi Udi Kushboo
S.i.d.h.u; Naaam He Sidhu; Naaam He Sidhu; Naaam He Sidhu
Naaam He Sidhu; Hoo……'
english translation as follows:
'dreamnt of big things but big things neednt be done
its colour may have faded, its fragrance may have gone,
S I D H U, the name is Sidhu ...... '
Harjot Sidhu produced a solid batting display which allowed Phoenix to get to a winning score and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Sofian for passing one hundred runs for the season thus far and to Fabian for passing the two thousand runs scored for the Phoenx.
Well done to Hillingdon for a great game that was closer than the scoreboard suggests. As for Phoenix, they produced an excellant account of themselves as the team battled and fought for every run and every wicket.
To quote Buddha (Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C.) 'To conquer oneself is a greater victory than to conquer thousands in a battle.'
