Hampton Wick Royal v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 05 Jul 2009 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 11 runs

Match report With Fabian back in charge of his legions, he led the team on a vey hot day for the short trip to Bushy Park. On winning the toss, the Hampton Wick Royal skipper elected to bat first.

Today was the Wimbledon Final where Roger Federer became the greatest player in Tennis's Grand Slam History as he beat Andy Roddick 9-7 in the final set to break Pete Sampras record of fifteen wins. A man for the occassion, unlike Andy Murray who does all the hard work but fails at the final hurdle, who did not choke when the pressure was upon him.

Phoenix came out firing on all cylinders as the fast bowlers bowled with great lines, lengths & movements and the spin option with great variety. The standout bowlers were Ali who only conceded six runs off his spell, Anup who made the breakthrough when needed and Nad who ripped through the middle order. The fielding was good as Fabian executed an unlikey run out and Anup taking a skier of a catch in the deep.

At tea, Phoenix had bowled out Hampton Wick Royal for one hundred and theity seven runs. On a good batting track and fast outfield the target at first did not present too much of a challenge.Tea experts claim to have found the perfect cuppa to accompany a traditional English breakfast - a Sri Lankan blend called Orange Pekoe.

But after tea, nothing was perfect as Phoenix's did not have the man for the occassion as they found the perfect collapse to accompany their own Sri Lankan blend called Red Saverimuttu. Only three players got into double figures with Fabian hitting six fours for his twenty-six, Zee hitting five fours for his twenty-nine and finally Nad hitting five fours for his thirty-four.

With victory in sight, Phoenix choked as they lost their final four wickets in four overs for just seven runs. The defeat is a bitter pill to swallow since we only lost by eleven runs with seven overs still to bat.

Nad produced with both bat & ball and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Fabian for passing three hundred runs & Zee for passing one hundred runs and to Fabian again for passing ten wickets for the for season thus far.

Well done to Hampton Wick Royal for a great game and having a never say die attitude as they fought to the very end. As for Phoenix, another defeat in a game in which we should have won comfortably as the pressure took hold. Remember the only pressure I'm under is the pressure I've put on myself. On another note, Phoenix should stop bickering amongst themselves whilst on the field as this does not show the true comradery we have but instead shows us in a bad light as the oppostion have to put up with it until it all over.

To quote Tommy Lasorda (American Baseball Player and Coach, b.1927) “Pressure is a word that is misused in our vocabulary. When you start thinking of pressure, it's because you've started to think of failure.”
