Match report
Noah's Ark, as described in the biblical Book of Genesis, is the vessel built by Noah at God's command to save Noah, his family, and the world's animals, from the Deluge. There is also a children's rhyme that goes as follow:
The animals went in two by two. Hurrah! Hurrah!
The animals went in two by two. Hurrah. Hurrah!
The animals went in two by two,
The elephant and the kangaroo,
And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.
It seems that some of the players were called up for the Ark as we lost two players on Friday and a further two on Saturday but the Phoenix has a strong will and thus was still able to honour the fixture versus Thames Ditton and above all gave them a competitive & fun game they deserve. Sanj led the Argonautic Legionnaires to the lovely ground of Thames Ditton on a warm day and with the Phoenix etiquette in mind, offered the opposition to bat first.
Phoenix got off to a great start as Noman to a spectacular catch in the slips off Kashif's bowling and in the next over Sanj perfected an easy run out. Thames Ditton were two down without a run being scored but then allowed Thames Ditton to get away with five missed chances of the two batsman who made ninety-six between them. All was not lost with Noman taking a another brilliant catch in the slips off Sanj's bowling and Rahul & Tushar bowling brilliantly claiming six wickets between them as they restricted Thames Ditton to a score which they said was about forty runs short of what they normally score.
At tea, Thames Ditton had posted one hundred and eighty three runs so the call from Sanj was to eat, drink and be merry. Whatever happens Phoenix needed to have fun and enjoy themselves. The game was all but gone in the first eleven overs as Noman unfortunately run out both Tushar & Rahul and inadvertently broke Indi's Phoenix record as he took eleven point one overs to get off the mark. Noman and Ali did give it a go but were soon out with Noman hitting five fours and a six for a steady thirty-eight and Ali hitting five-fours for a quickdraw thirty-five.
Phoenix finally succumbed to defeat but with laughter, handshakes and Richie Richardson watching as the team came off the field of play everyone involved had a good time. The Thames Ditton skipper praised Phoenix for our bowling effort, our banter and above all our attitude. The average age of the team is twenty-three and these young guns like the Black Maple Hill a 23 Year Old Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey have comparable strength & maturity.
Noman held onto two fantastic catches in the slips and was electric in the field and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Noman for passing two hundred runs for the season thus far and to Tushar for passing the thousand run mark for Phoenix.
Well done to Thames Ditton for being tremendous hosts and providing the most scrumptious prawn sandwiches on the circuit. As for Phoenix, they can held their heads up high as they lived the Phoenix ethos and never let themselves down as they showed an integrity deserved of the club. Thomas Paine (Thomas Paine (February 9, 1737 [O.S. January 29, 1736[1]] – June 8, 1809) was an author, pamphleteer, revolutionary, radical, inventor, intellectual and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.) words come to the fore as character is much easier kept than recovered
To quote Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865), the 16th President of the United States) "I never had a policy; I have just tried to do my very best each and every day".
