Phoenix Cricket Club Won 50 runs
Match report
Where has the Autumn Summer gone as a cold & overcast day enveloped the landscape with the sun struggling to shine in a vain attempt to show its beauty. In a similar vain, the Phoenix players struggled to get out of bed for this early Sunday morning start but it wasnt beauty that they wanted to hide.
Fabian rallied up his legionnaires to the short trip to the ancestral & spiritual home of many of the Phoenix players who play league cricket with them. Thus on winning the toss the opposition skipper had no hesitation into bowling first and Phoenix knew they had a battle on their hands. It was crucial that Phoenix batted out their overs.
Phoenix started quickly with a flurry of boundaries of Fabian's bat but soon after the team were in big trouble as they slumped to thirty-nine for four in just the tenth over of the game. Zoroaster was an ancient Iranian prophet and religious poet. The hymns attributed to him, the Gathas, are at the liturgical core of Zoroastrianism. The followers of Zoroastrianism are known by Parsi's. Also Incarnation which literally means embodied in flesh, refers to the conception and birth of a sentient creature (generally a human) who is the material manifestation of an entity or force whose original nature is immaterial.
Sofian and Jazz were at the crease and would it be a matter of time before Phoenix had lost all their wickets but to make a 'game of it', the Kempton skipper rang in the bowling changes and held back his fire power. The orders of the day were for Jazz to bat sensibly and hold up one end so allowing the carefree Sofian to play his natural game.
Sofian batted beautifully with skill, gay abandon and great composure as he made an excellent eighty-runs (which included fourteen fours) under tremendous pressure and with the help of his able assitant Jazz they had put on ninety-nine runs in nineteen overs. Alas there was Jazz who surprisingly listened to his instructions incarnated into the form of 'Sachin Battingwala of Phoenix' as he stood strong. Remaining focused & unphased at all times he batted for an immense twenty-five overs showing true grit & remarkable concentration as he helped take Phoenix to a reputable score.
At tea Phoenix had scored one hundred and sixty runs and knew that if they got a few quick wickets then victory could be theirs. The Phoenix's Triad of Pace took the Kempton batsmen with surprise with their pace, movement and accuracy as they bumped and grinded them into a false sense of security. Kempton batting card was a good and long one so it was essential that Phoenix didn't allow the pressure to drop and that they maintained their high intensity.
Phoenix managed this as they took wickets as soon as the Kempton batting looked set and it seemed like the Kempton batsmen would take the game away from them. Kempton kept on losing wickets at the crucial moments of the run chase which allowed the Phoenix Juggernaut to gather pace & momentum. Fabian sensing this mised up the bowling so not allowing the Kempton boys to settle and soon enough the rewards were reaped. Sofian, David, Ali and Nad bowled brilliantly well and with Anup mopping up the final two wickets in two balls, Phoenix went home to a hard fought win.
Jazz batted with maturity & discpline when it seemed like Phoenix were dead & buried and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Fabian for passing six hundred runs & Sofian for passing two hundred runs and to Nad for passing thirty wickets & David for passing ten wickets for the season thus far.
Well done to Kempton for their wonderful gesture and for showing a kinship that allowed everyone to feel welcomed. As for Phoenix, a superb as they showed a strength of character that did not allow them to give up and above all stayed postive to the very end. Winning or losing does not matter as long as you keep your pride and reputation. An arab proverb 'Dwell not upon thy weariness, thy strength shall be according to the measure of thy desire.'
To quote Louis Pasteur (French chemist and microbiologist 1822 - 1895) 'Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal. My strength lies solely in my tenacity.'
