Frimley v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 23 May 2010 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 128 runs
Match report
With the past two weeks showing some good results, Nad in the abscence of Fabian due to injury, led his Cartel of Troops via the scenic route to Frimley. Driving by Wentworth Golf Club had the team wondering if they were going to play at the Bob Hope Classic. Anyway the hottest day of the year welcomed both teams and on winning the toss Nad had no hestitation in batting first.
The UEFA Champions League (usually referred to as simply the Champions League or historically as the European Cup) is an annual Association football cup competition organised by UEFA since 1955 for the top football clubs in Europe. The final of the competition is – along with the NFL's Super Bowl – the most watched annual sporting event worldwide, drawing just over 100 million television viewers. With Inter Milan and Jose Mourinho winning the cup beating Bayern Munich two goals to nil the night before.
What more can be said that the Phoenix batting has found its feet with two special performances. Sofian showed his class as his tore into the bowling making eighty-nine runs which included twelve fours and four sixes. The shot of the day was his six over midwicket which climbed and climbed and sailed over the trees and out of the ground - a truly phenomenal hit. He shared the opening stand with Tushar as they scored one hundred and forty one runs for the first wicket.
At the loss of Sofian, Frimley did not know what hit them as Jay produced another whirlwind performance as he hit eight fours and eight sixes for his century. An outrageous display of destructive batting indeed. Tushar chipped in with twenty-eight runs and Richard helped himself to twenty-four runs. At tea, Phoenix had declared on three hundred and thirteen off just thirty five overs.
With cakes and mini-pizza in their bellies, the Phoenix players wondered onto the pitch knowing that they had to enjoy themselves and not to be disrespectful to the opposition. Nad opened the bowling with Sanj & Gindi and the first change was Vishal. Gindi bowled some beautiful deliveries of splendid flight, length, line and turn - these wickets got him his three wickets as he cleaned bowled all three. Vishal bowling his Ajanta Mendis off & leg spin produced a fine display as he had the batsmen guessing which way the ball was going to turn - on another day he would have had a few wickets to his name.
With the game all but over Nad mixed up the bowling and all barring the wicketkeeper had a bowl. Phoenix bowled their forty overs and ran out winners easily.
The man of the match award goes to Gindi for getting a first ball duck, taking three wickets and keeping up with the banter. The half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Shaunak bowling left arm spin as oppose to his natural action which is right arm quick. A special mention to Jay for passing three hundred runs and to Sofian and Tush for passing one hundred runs for the season thus far.
A special thanks to Frimley who knew early on that defeat was inevitable but they battled away admirably in the heat and being wonderful hosts. As for Phoenix, they conducted themselves with dignity and humility as they did not go out to disrespect the opposition playing the game with charm & respect.Arrogance diminishes wisdom which even Jose Mourinho is not guilty off as displayed on his victory in the Champions League.
To quote Frank Barron (July 7, 1914 – October 17, 1994 served as professor of civil engineering at University of California and twice the recipient of the prized Leon S. Moisseiff Award issued annually by the American Society of Civil Engineers) “Never take a person's dignity: it is worth everything to them, and nothing to you.”
