Hampton Wick Royal v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 04 Jul 2010 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 9 runs
Match report
After last week Clash of the Titans victory, Phoenix were in high spirits for the game against Hampton Wick Royal. Nad once again lost the toss and was asked to field first on a hot day. What happend next is not worth a full match report since only Phoenix can snatch defeat from the mouth of victory,
Hampton Wick Royal came out to bat and their opener made a chanceless one hundred and thirty eight runs to get his team to two hundred and fifty one off their alloted set of overs.
Phoenix got off to a poor start with Nad, Jay and Noman back in the pavilion early. Aslan kept up with the run rate with a hard fought forty-four runs but at ths loss of his wicket it seemed all but lost for Phoenix. Rahul and Ali had other ideas as they then hit ninety-four runs of the next twelve overs to put Phoenix back in charge of the game with Rahul making a splendid fifty-seven (which included seen fours and a six) and Ali a crucial sixty-five runs (which included eight fours).
Phoenix were crusing to victory as they reached two hundred and twenty eight for five in the thirty fourth over. With only twenty three runs needed for victory all looked simple until the Prodigious Cricket Collapse ensued as Phoenix lost the final five wickets for just fourteen runs in just five overs. The crucial wicket was Shaunak running himself out that then exposed the tail.
The man of the match award goes to Ali for his innings that took us so close to vicorty. The half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to the Team for doing body builder poses as they sang Peter Andre's Mysterious girl. A special mention to Ali and Rahul for passing one hundred runs for the season thus far and to Rahul for passing the thousand run mark for the club.
A special thanks to Hampton Wick Royal for their great teas and never losing hope as they battled like a united team. As for Phoenix, another collapse which lead to defeat and regardless of that was said and done the team did not learn from lessons of last week.
To quote Josiah Charles Stamp (English Economist President of the Bank of England in the 1920's and the 2nd richest man in Great Britain, 1880-1941) “It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.”
