Darji v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 30 Apr 2006 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 5 runs
Match report
So to a rising of a new sun, an awakening of a new dawn and the first flight for the Phoenix. Jason dusting away his cobwebs came out leading his new team who as always were full of vigour & energy for the forthcoming season.
So a new start for a new team.
A cloudy day welcome both teams and Jason on winning the toss elected to field first. Phoenix came out firing with debutant Riaz turning up the heat with some brilliant pace bowling. His speed and control had the opposition batsman in trouble and soon had the wickets tumbling. Varun kept up the pressure with some tight overs and was rewarded with a wicket when Sanjeev took a splendid one handed catch at mid-off.
With the pressure on Jason called upon his spinners and they too got into the act. Sanjeev bowled a nagging line & length whilst Rahul had the batsmen in trouble with his turn.
Phoenix fielded well but made a few slips with a few dropped catches and miss-stumping. Darji battled hard to ninety nine all out but Phoenix knew that they should have closed their innings on a much lower score. Jason only used four bowloers and they had wrapped up the Darji innings in thirty two overs with Riaz ending up with four wickets, Rahul with three and one a piece for Sanjeev & Varun.
Phoenix came out confident in the run chase but soon were pegged back by the dismissal of Tushar. Debutants Darius and Shiv soon had the ship in control with some solid defence and taking the singles when they had the chance. At 20 overs, Phoenix were fifty for the loss of one wicket. On a tough wicket they both grafted hard showing good technique and maturity in getting Phoenix to a winning position.
Darji came back into the game with a dazzling 5 over spell with some fine swing and spin bowling where they took six wickets and conceding only ten runs. The pressure took its toll and Phoenix were nine down for seventy. With the a license to let loose Riaz soon started to find the middle of his bat and blasting his way in the run chase.
Riaz was at ease and soon was at twenty eight when tragedy struck as Sanjeev was run out with Phoenix needing only six runs for victory.
Well done to Darji for a splendid game. The Phoenix has risen and a great day, despite the loss, was had by all concerned. Let the joyous and fun times roll on.
