Phoenix Cricket Club Won 43 runs
Match report
Teamwork - collaboration among members to produce a quality display of which team members have joint responsibility.
Contribution - any one of a number of individual efforts in a common endeavour
So after the adventures away in Somerset, Jason led his war torn troops from the incursions of Minehead to a battle closer to home in Reading. On a very hot day Jason set sail on the Argo with his Argonauts in search of the golden fleece (a third successive victory - a hat trick of wins).
Surprisingly on losing the toss Phoenix were asked to set willow to leather and post a score first. A sigh of jubilation could be heard as the team got wind of the news.
Zahir and Tusher opened the innings with confidence and soon got the scoreboard ticking over. Zahir first four scoring shots were all boundaries as settled in quickly whilst Tusher made a watchful start.
Zahir pulled & hooked to a marvellous forty five (which included seven fours and six) and Tusher, with the lives of a cat on his side, grafted out a hard fought thirty. They both put an opening stand of ninety two off twenty overs before they fell which gave Phoenix the perfect foundation for a big score.
Varun and Jason went on the attack straight away as they scored twenty seven off four overs with Varun eventually falling as he tried to hit another boundary.
Shiv and Jason then accelerated the scoring and gave impetuous to the run scoring as they scored forty six runs in seven overs with Shiv finally falling as he tried to give the strike to Jason.
After the quick loss of Indi, Rahul and Jason let loose and were firing with all cylinders loaded as they unleashed on Prestcold scoring fifty nine runs in the last five overs.
Rahul powered his way to an unbeaten seventeen but the innings of the day was that of Jason. He was unbeaten on a brilliant eighty four (which included ten fours and two sixes) as he plundered the bowling with exquisite shot play (especially the Saverimuttu Drive which he and his brother have now made their own) and precision placement.
After the forty overs Phoenix made two hundred and twenty seven which included twenty four fours and four sixes.
Ali and debutant Farhan opened the bowling with pace and swing causing the Prestcold batsman to play and miss. But the batsmen held their nerve and soon were carting the bad balls to the boundaries as they kept up with the run rate scoring ninety runs off the first fourteen overs.
Vishal and Sanj replaced the opening bowlers and made an impact straight away. Sanj in his first over bowled D.Rosier as he just started to look confident and in his second over, with some great fielding by Jason, ran out the skipper for a duck.
With tight fielding from all Phoenix upped the pressure as Prestcold tried to seize the initiative back. With the pressure mounting Vishal and Sanj bowled with great discipline and soon had the Prestcold in trouble.
By the twenty fifth over the game was all but won by Phoenix as Rahul took a great catch of Vishal's bowling to take the wicket of H.King who looked ominous on a superbly made fifty five. Vishal finished with two wickets and Sanj with five five as Prestcold lost eight wickets for forty eight runs in fifteen overs.
A great win for Phoenix who showed great teamwork as everyone contributed to this fantastic win. Well done to Phoenix and special mention to Prestcold for an excellent game and playing the game as it should be.
See you guys next year.
