Old Isleworthians & Heston v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 11 Jun 2006 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 98 runs

Match report The PAST : The phoenix, a fabulous mythical bird the size of an eagle, symbolizes rebirth in many ancient cultures. According to the ancient Greeks, the bird lives in Arabia, nearby a cool well and sings a beautiful morning song. The phoenix lives 500 years or longer with only one phoenix existing at a time. When the bird's death approaches, it bursts into flames, and a new bird springs from the consumed pyre.

The FUTURE: The Phoenix Mars Mission, scheduled for launch in August 2007, is the first in NASA's "Scout Program." Scouts are designed to be highly innovative and relatively low-cost complements to major missions being planned as part of the agency's Mars Exploration Program. Phoenix is specifically designed to measure volatiles (especially water) and complex organic molecules in the arctic plains of Mars, where the Mars Odyssey orbiter has discovered evidence of ice-rich soil very near the surface.

The PRESENT: On Sunday 11th June an epic event came to be - an event that made history and will be re-lived in the years to come. This event being Phoenix's first win.

A scorcher of a hot day welcomed Phoenix to the humble abode of Old Isleworthians. Jason won the toss, a sigh of relief was echoed across the grounds by Phoenix, he did not hesitate in electing to bat first. Also a special mention to Rakhee who for the second game in a row came to support us. On this very hot day Phoenix had to make the most of winning the toss.

This they did has the batsmen blasted seventeen fours and one six in scoring a total of one hundred and ninety four. All seven batsmen reached double figures with Bob making his debut with a excellent thirty eight and batting for thirty three overs; with Fabian making a brilliant forty two; with Indi making a swashbuckling twenty eight; with Shiv making a quick twenty two; with Jim making an unflustered fourteen; with Jason making a rapid thirteen and finally with Veraf who blasted his way to seventeen in eight balls.

With a good score on the board, the Phoenix layers came on to the field with lots of energy. They needed to bowl and field well if they wanted to defend the score.

This they did has the Spin Twins Fabian and Sanj tore through the top order with some excellent off spin bowling. The Old Isleworthians batsmen soon became unstuck has they found it hard to settle down has Fabian bowled with bounce, turn and the doosra whilst Sanj bowled with control. flight and turn. A magical spell of bowling where they conceded only fifty eight runs off twenty one overs whilst taking eight wickets with both bowlers finishing with four a piece.

Yazdan was once again excellent in the field with lots of running, great stops and an excellent catch. As for catching Jason showed us his art of juggling and Shiv took a skier with ease.

The Old Isleworthians innings came to an end as Veraf sealed the ninety eight run victory by taking the final two wickets in his first over.

It was a great day out with cricket being played in the spirit it should be and thanks to Old Isleworthian for their hospitality. See you next year. Also a special thanks to Sarb and Vin who helped us out on this very hot day by playing at short notice and above all becoming part of the team and doing what needed to be done.

In October last year the Phoenix had risen but today we all can say that the Phoenix has landed.
