Obelisk v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sat 14 Apr 2012 at 13:30
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 100 runs
Match report
So the first game of the season and the first Pre-season tour match. After much to do about nothing, Kully got hold of his Bhangra Boys and to Obelisk in Northants we went. A cold, overcast and windy day presented it self to all and sundry but cricket will be played and cricket will be the winner.
An obelisk is a tall, four-sided, narrow tapering monument which ends in a pyramid-like shape at the top, and is said to resemble a petrified ray of the sun-disk. The Phoenix won a comfortable game with its four pillars. Lav smashed his way to fifty one which included ten fours, Wendel battered his way to seventy seven which included nine fours & five sixes as well as taking three wickets, Fabian battled to thirty seven which included four fours as well as taking two wickets and finally Rowdy walloped his way to eighteen which included three fours as well as taking three wickets.
Phoenix made two hundred and thirty seven in their allotted forty overs and Obelisk challenge was all but lost early doors as they lost by hundred runs.
The man of the match award goes to Wendel for contribution with both bat and ball. The half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Sanj who played crackerjack of a shot on the pool table.
A special thanks to Obelisk for having fun and enjoying a good drink in bar with us after the game. As for Phoenix, great teamwork was the key to success.
Well done to Obelisk for being a good bunch of lads and playing the game of cricket as it should be played. As for Phoenix, a tremendous effort by the team and It has been said that if you can laugh together, you can work together. Phoenix ethos is having fun as team and thus a laughing team that loses is better than a winning team with sad individuals. Obelisk shares the same ethos.
To quote Henry Ford (American industrialist and pioneer of the assembly-line production method, 1863-1947) “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
