Match report
The English summer once again shows its true nature with a week full of blustery winds & rain that ends with a beautiful summer afternoon on the Sunday. Kully led his Bhangra Boys on the short journey to Hampton which is famous for its Palace, Park & Gardens. Kully on winning the toss had no hesitation in batting first.
If you Google Woodlawn there are many references to it such as it is a gracious 126-acre estate that was originally part of George Washington's Mount Vernon in the USA and is also an estate in Thailand that is surrounded by two acres of coconut palm trees and tropical gardens; an ideal habitat for vibrantly coloured butterflies. The Woodlawn we play against is lovely ground surrounded by trees & bushes with a small park at the edge of its perimeter - seems like the Green Revolution was successful here.
Green Revolution refers to a series of research, development, and technology transfer initiatives, occurring between the 1940s and the late 1970s, that increased agriculture production around the world. The term "Green Revolution" was first used in 1968 by former United States Agency for International Development (USAID) director William Gaud, who noted the spread of the new technologies and said, "These and other developments in the field of agriculture contain the makings of a new revolution. It is not a violent Red Revolution like that of the Soviets, nor is it a White Revolution like that of the Shah of Iran. I call it the Green Revolution."
Today Phoenix witnessed the Gill Revolution as Aman hit thirteen fours to an unbeaten century in just his third game for the club. he played with blissful ease and his years of cricketing research & development came to fruition.
His dad must have been proud as he umpired during Aman's innings and people may smell foul play but there we no thin edges to the keeper, no did he catch it or not debates or good shout LBW appeals that needed to be turned down. With Shaunak, who hit a fast flowing thirty eight which included five fours and a six, they managed to put on a ninety eight run partnership to take Phoenix to a commanding score of two hundred and nineteen off just thirty four overs.
Kully opened up with the spinners so he could bowl the most amount of overs before the final twenty overs began and hopefully would have prized out a few wickets before his armoury of quicks had their say. Phoenix bowled forty two overs by the close of the Woodlawn innings. Woodlawn never looked like chasing the runs as they began to defend from the outset. and after a little bit of a hiccup towards the end managed to end the game in a draw.
The man of the match award goes to Aman for his first Phoenix Century and the half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Kully for showing off his Photography skills.
Well done to Woodlawn who are great host and enjoy the game as much as we do. As for Phoenix, they were committed to the end which is a positive sign for the team. “There's a difference between interest and commitment.
When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”
To quote Bill Gates (American Entrepreneur and Founder of Microsoft Co., b.1955) “Great organizations demand a high level of commitment by the people involved.”
