Thames Ditton v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 10 Jun 2012 at 14:00
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 6 wickets
Match report
Another will it or wont it rain today presented itself as the Phoenix boys awoke from their slumber this morning. Overcast skies could be seen from ones window but luckily enough not a drop of rain had fallen overnight so maybe some good luck for all. The Bhangra Boys were in fine voice and were ready to bring out their moves & grooves for much loved old hits such as Panjabi MC's "Mundian To Bach Ke" ("Beware of the Boys") (1998; it first appeared on the album Legalised) which mixed the theme of the TV series Knight Rider with bhangra) and Bally Sagoo's 1994 album Bollywood Flashback,(The remix of Asha Bhosle's "Chura Liya" from the album is widely considered as an industry benchmark and the gold standard for Bollywood mixes) followed up with Rising From The East in 1996.
Alas Phoenix were not going to a wedding or even a daytime gig but to a cricket match. Maybe this mindset was in place for what happened next. Cricket is a funny old game and everyone is always as good as their last innings with magical moments and not so magical moments all thrown into the mix.
In April 1976, India were playing the fourth test against West Indies in Sabina Park, Jamaica. India in their second innings went from 97 for 2 to 97 all out with 2 ducks and 6 retired hurts. In November 2008, Zimbabwe were playing the first one day international against Sri Lanka in Harare. Zimbabwe went from 124 for 3 to 127 with their last 6 wickets all out for ducks.
Not to be outdone, outshone and out-embarrassed, in June 2012, Phoenix went from 135 for 3 in 31.2 overs to 147 all out after 34.2 overs. Phoenix collapse was that of losing seven wickets in eighteen balls for twelve runs. After tea Phoenix needed a miracle to win against a decent batting side. Even though Aman bowled beautifully for his four wickets, Phoenix were never in the game as Thames Ditton ended all proceedings in the twenty fifth over.
The man of the match award goes to Lav for top scoring with sixty one runs and two stumpings and the half man and half amazing BDM Amazer award goes to Rowdy for facing the hat-trick ball twice in two overs. A special mention to Lav for the passing hundred runs for the season thus far.
Well done to Thames Ditton who always welcome the team with a smile and play the game in laughter. As for Phoenix, they made many mistakes that the team need to rectify with both collective & individual responsibility. Mistakes are a great educator when one is honest enough to admit them and willing to learn from them”
To quote Jim Rohn (American Speaker and Author. He is famous for motivational audio programs for Business and Life. ) “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.”
