Chalfont St Peter v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 17 Aug 2008 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 148 runs

Match report During the first three years of The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), also known as the American War of Independence, the Royal Navy was primarily used to transport troops for land operations and to protect commercial shipping. The Royal Navy was headed by Lord Sandwich, the First Lord of the Admiralty. In Jason's third year in reign nothing of the sort is envisaged but could Jason's Argonauts organise their own land assault and protect their honour.

Finally a Saverimuttu was back in charge of the Red Caps and Fabian led the small troop of athletes who were full of promise & wonders to the excellent ground of Beaconsfield for the match against Chalfont St Peter. A warm but overcast day welcomed both teams and on winning the toss Fabian elected to bat first.

This summer's big event is the Two Thousand and Eight Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, which is officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. The mascots at these Olympics are the five Fuwa, each representing both a colour of the Olympic rings and a symbol of Chinese culture. The Fuwa are literally "good-luck dolls" and are as follows:

Bèibei (fish for the aquatic sports)
Jīngjing (panda for the power sports)
Huānhuan (fire for ball sports)
Yíngying (tibetan antelope for the track and field)
Nīni (swallow for gymnastics)

One of the highlights of this years Summer Olympics is Michael Fred Phelps the American swimmer who won eight gold medals:

Gold One - Four hundred meter individual medley
Gold Two - Four by One hundred meter freestyle relay
Gold Three - Two hundred meter freestyle
Gold Four - Two hundred meter butterfly
Gold Five - Four by Two hundred meter freestyle relay
Gold Six - Two hundred meter individual medley
Gold Seven - One hundred meter butterfly
Gold Eight - Four by One hundred meter medley relay

Phoenix had the worst of possible starts are Tushar was out on just the second ball of the innings and looking back at the bowling that was the ball of the ball. Phoenix's two wise men, Fabian and Noman, were at the crease and they needed to keep a level head and cement down a good position. The company Lafarge (the owners of Blue Circle & Portland Cement brands) would have been proud of the foundation they created as they amassed a massive one hundred and eighty eight runs in the next twenty seven overs breaking the Highest Partnership and the Highest Second Wicket Partnership with ease.

After a slow start, Fabian played with usual gusto as he blasted his way to a brilliant half century. in the mould of Sehwag and Pieterson, Fabian also plays the ball on his strength and will launch regardless on what score and on what milestone he is on. His natural game is aggression and unluckily he was caught on ninety nine (which included twenty one fours) as he tried to do what he is doing all season - hitting the ball out of the ground.

In the blitz around him, Noman played with great compose and technique as he defended what needed to be defended, hit what needed to be hit, ran quick fire singles and above all held one innings thus allowing Fabian to do his thing. Noman played quite superbly for his seventy two (which included seven fours and a six).

The foundation was laid with Rahul, Richard and Amrit all contributing to elevate Phoenix to a commanding position. Infact Richard and Amrit scored the final forty six runs in just in just twenty nine balls which helped Phoenix to two hundred and seventy nine at tea.

Phoenix came out to field knowing that they just had to bowl with their usual high standards and victory was theirs. Farhan, Ali and Vishal all bowled with pace, movement and great lines & length. The Chalfont St Peter batsmen didn’t have a response as Ali conceded just six runs of his eight over spell and Vishal ripping out the middle order with three wickets in two overs.

Once the breakthrough were made, Fabian rang in the changes as he used nine bowlers and everyone in the field got involved. With the clouds ready to discharge its of water, minute raindrops could be felt and Phoenix needed to bowl the final fifteen overs with great speed. Phoenix beat the weather and soon after the game had been won the rain came falling down. Phoenix came of the ground humming to the tune "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" (a song written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) as they came away with the gold.

The events that unfolded at Beaconsfield are now set in stone in the Phoenix History book as Olympic sized feats were also achieved. An inspired Phoenix also claimed their own eight gold medals:

Gold One - Highest Team Score - Two Hundred and Seventy Nine
Gold Two - Highest 2nd Wicket Partnership - One Hundred and Eighty Eight
Gold Three - Highest Partnership - One Hundred and Eighty Eight
Gold Four - Biggest Winning Margin - One Hundred and Forty Eight
Gold Five - Fabian's Most Runs (in a season) - Seven Hundred and Thirty Six and counting
Gold Six - Noman's Highest Score - Seventy Two
Gold Seven - Amrit's Highest Score - Nineteen
Gold Eight - Ali's Best Bowling - Six runs conceded of eight overs

The five Phoenix fuwa the helped accomplish this were:

Noman - our own Bèibei for his great technique as he cuts shots are like a fin thru water.
Fabian - our own Jīngjing for his powerful hitting.
Ali - our own Huānhuan for his great control of the ball.
Vishal - our own Yíngying for his running and speed as he come to bowl.
Indi - our own Nīni for his gymnast like ability behind the stumps.

Noman all round contribution as he batted well providing the perfect foil for Fabian, took a catch & a wicket and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Fabian for passing seven hundred runs and for Richard & Noman passing one hundred runs for the season thus far.

Well Done to Chalfont St Peter who never dropped the heads and played with fun & banter to the very end. As for Phoenix, an excellent display of comradeship. The Olympic slogan is One World, One Dream and calls upon the world to unite in the Olympic spirit. The Phoenix slogan is One Team, One Desire and calls upon all the members to unite in the Cricketing spirit.

Rubbing shoulders jocularly with the opposition and each other is Phoenix's strength. To quote Heywood C. Broun quotes (American Writer, 1888-1939) “Brotherhood is not just a Bible word. Out of comradeship can come and will come the happy life for all.”
