Godalming v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 27 Jul 2008 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 10 runs

Match report Cyprian, who became the bishop of Carthage in 248 A.D., writes in his Epistle LXX, to Agrippinus concerning rebaptism of heretics, which he defined one group as those who had not been baptized using the trinity formula. Obviously, there must have been a debate continuing to go on in the churches about Jesus name baptism versus the triune baptism for these church leaders to continue to make denunciation of the "heretics". In 255-256 A.D., the Council of Baptism of Heretics was called in the Third Year of Stephen’s Episcopate. In Jason's third year in reign nothing of the sort is envisaged but could Jason's Argonauts have a Baptism of Fire of their own and produce a performance to go into the record books.

Fabian led the Red Caps to the now much awaited fixture of the season away at Godalming. The long journey was made arduous due to the car park conditions on the M25 as well as by the very hot sun that like Sauron, the Dark Lord of Mordor, had its eye's on everyone and everything.

Thanking the heavens above, Sanj informed Fabian that Phoenix had won the toss. Fabian had no hesitation in making his decisions and to the cheers of Phoenix and the groans of Godalming, decided to bat first.

The worst of possible starts were made as Fabian was out without scoring in only the second over. What happened next has now been etched into the batting records of Phoenix's Hall of Fame.

Zahir and Tushar have been scoring runs consistently in the past games but it was time to make hay of the good starts that they were making. Today was a day for hay making as they both put overcame any hayfever allergies. In terms of nature & geology, the Tushar Mountains are located east of the community of Beaver in southwest Utah. The mountains were named for the Paiute word for white, T'shar, an indication of the light colour seen near the summits of the peaks. Explorer Clarence Dutton called the high peaks of the Tushars: "noble cones ending in sharp cusps [that] stand pre-eminent, while behind them numerous dome-like masses rise to nearly the same altitudes. The resultant sculptural forms are correspondingly bold and craggy."

On a human level, Phoenix's very own Tushar had overcome the peaks & beavers of the Goan variety to make his very own bold statements to reach a summit as yet not conquered. The communities of Utah as well as Southall would have been proud.

So the records were broken. Zahir hit his highest score for Phoenix as he made an elegant sixty three (which included ten fours), Tushar hits his maiden Phoenix fifty with a sublime fifty four (which included six fours) and between then they broke the highest second wicket partnership as they accumulated one hundred and nineteen runs off twenty two overs.

At twenty overs Phoenix were on hundred for one and the foundation was laid for a big score. Richard came in with Madonna in his thoughts as he quickly got into the groove and hit a quick fire thirty four (which included three fours).

At tea, Phoenix made two hundred and four on a pitch ideal for batting. The bowling and fielding needed to be of the highest class if victory was to be theirs.

Sanj opened the bowling and after a non spectacular start was right on the money and at the end of his spell got the breakthrough that was needed. Sanj appealed with all his might as echoes of Rod Tidwell screaming 'Show me the money' in Jerry Maguire could be envisaged and with great spirit the batsman walked as he got the thin edge.

The Godalming batsman were making a go at chasing the score down and it seemed luck was on their side as edges were landing everywhere but near any Phoenix fielders. Was Carson going to ruin Phoenix's thunder and take Godalming to the win. Ali and Fabian were the next bowlers to make an impact as after tight bowling they too snapped up wickets.

But Carson was still at the crease and with Craven they kept up the run chase and they had the upper hand. Carson went on to a hit a magnificent century and victory was in sight.

But Phoenix had one more trick up their sleeve and Nad came onto bowl. Could the 'Father of the Nation' Gandhi impersonator be the saviour of Phoenix. Nad with all his experience and skill conjured up a spell of bowling that was spectacular. With rip and speed he pegged back the Godalming run fest with three important wickets with the main prize of Carson.

Phoenix were back in it but the game was in the balance. Forty runs of the final thirty balls was required and at the run rate Godalming were scoring at this was very much achievable.

The finite-element method originated from the needs for solving complex elasticity, structural analysis problems in civil and aeronautical engineering. It is a numerical technique for finding approximate solutions of partial differential equations (PDE) as well as of integral equations. Also Charged particle optics is a broad field encompassing everything from teravolt accelerators, for the study of the structure of sub-atomic particles, to scanning electron microscopes having beam energies of less than 0.1 keV. A book on this subject was authored by Anjam Khursheed and is called The Finite Element Method in Charged Particle Optics.

With the pressure that was everyone was subjected too, Imran was feeling it most as he had to wicket keep well as the bowling and fielding displayed was of top brass. Imran authored his own book called 'The Boom Boom Method in Wicket Keeping' as he charged up the Phoenix nucleus as well as finding the answers to the equations the bowling was making.

Imran took catches of Sanj. Fabian and Nad which is an immense feat as this was only his third time keeping for the team on top of the varied difference in the art of slow bowling the three exude.

Zahir came on to bowl the final over with Godalming needing fifteen to win but Khursheed, which is a commonly used Persian name meaning sun, was beaming brightly in both the astronomical and human level as Phoenix won the game as Godalming could not manage the improbable.

Imran excelled in the field taking four catches & assisting in a run out as he kept wicket and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Zahir and Tushar for passing two hundred runs and to Nad for passing twenty wickets for the season thus far.

Well done to Godalming for an enthralling game and being wonderful hosts as ever. As for Phoenix, Like VAT, all the Dark Knights of Phoenix added value as they solved all the riddles presented since there were no jokers in this pack. It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit since Phoenix showed teamwork which is the ability to work together toward a common vision.

To quote Max DePree (American writer and Leadership Guru) "The key elements in the art of working together are how to deal with change, how to deal with conflict, and how to reach our potential...the needs of the team are best met when we meet the needs of individuals persons".
