Match report
In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto Daniel. The Vision of the Ram and Goat. In Jason's third year in reign nothing of the sort is envisaged but could Jason's Argonauts have a vision of sublime batting instead of 'what's for tea'.
In the absence of both the Saverimuttu brothers, Sanj led the Red caps to the familiar trip to Reading, which as per usual was not a straight forward one even though many of us have invested in Tom Tom's. With a weakened batting line up, Sanj offered Prestcold to bat first in hopes of making a good day of cricket for all involved. Srinivas was making his debut.
In overcast skies, the Phoenix Fire was flaming hot, which would have made the onwer of Burger King proud, as the quicks took control of the match early on. Farhan and Ali were quick and hostile making the batsmen play and miss with ease. This allowed the pressure to build and supported by good fielding the Prestcold batsmen didn’t know were the next run was coming from. Anup came on and instantly found his nagging line and length which frustrated the batsman into making mistakes and this time Phoenix took their chances.
Firstly Anup run out the opener and in the next over Varun took a sharp catch of Sanj's bowling as the other opener fell. Sanj & Anup maintained their discipline and soon the wickets were tumbling. Anup finished his spell conceding only seventeen runs of his eight overs and claiming a wicket. Srinivas was thrown into the fire and continued were the other quicks left off and bowled a beauty to dimiss the ever dangerous King for fifteen.
Farhan, Karthik and Amrit all took fine catches and the ground fielding was excellent which helped Phoenix's chances as Prestcold finished on one hundred and twenty four off their alloted forty overs. At tea, Phoenix were in the driving seat.
The batting never got off to a good start and Phoenix's challenge was all over at the midway point of their innings as they slumped to thirty nine for seven. With only reputation was left to play Varun and Ali took the game to Prestcold. Varun was on fire as he rose from the ashes with a fine swashbuckling display of batting as he gave Phoenix a glimmer of victory. He played a brillant knock as he scored his Phoenix's Maiden fifty which included three fours and a six.
With Varun and Sanj left for the final wicket, the fire wsa blown out as Phoenix were bowled out for eighty seven in the thirty sixth over.
A nail-biitng game which swayed in the favour of each team at every point but well done to Prestcold on their victory. The victory may have elluded them but the Phoenix's fire still burns hot and plentiful.
Varun showed his class as batted superbly on a difficult wicket and for this reason he is named Man of the Match.
As for Phoenix, there is no limit to what we can achieve through the power of our spirit. To quote Winston ChurchilL "The United States is like giant boiler. Once the fire is lighted under it, there is no limit to the power it can generate.”
