Kidmore End v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 14 Jun 2015 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 68 runs
Match report
Beat Kidmore End by 68 runs. We were invited to play against a medium strength side at a superb facility situated in a beautiful countryside location. On winning the toss, Sanj had no hesitation to bat first. We got off to a good start with Kully & Prince making an opening stand of 70 and all look comfortable. Then Kidmore End's first team bowlers came on and the runs dried up & wickets fell as we went from 70 for 0 off 12 overs to 102 for 4 off 22 overs. Sethi & Haseeb then got the runs flowing as they started to accelarate with ease. Sethi followed up his half century from last week with another fifty as he smashed 66 off 45 balls which included 10 fours & a six. Haseeb continued his form he has showed all season and made his maiden fifty as he fired 51 from 27 balls which included 9 fours. Sakhil is turning into a genuine all-rounder as he hit 36 off 21 balls which included 3 fours & 2 sixes with ease. Babbu & Gurdeep took us home and at tea we made a superb 288 but was that to be enough.
Kidmore End got off to a flying start going at over 8 runs per over and soon passed fifty after 6 overs. Mannu came onto bowl and soon found his rhythm & pace as he made the much needed breakthrough. The runs were flowing as Kidmore End reach 100 with just the 1 wicket down off just 12 overs. Sanj was on the money first ball as he found his line & length and in just his second over got Kidmore End's first eleven opener caught behind. Mannu & Sanj stemmed the flow of runs as wickets fell in regular intervals and slowly Kidmore End resistance ended. Gurdeep bowled exceptionally well and made a good comeback after a very poor opening over. The light was fading and before the game was called a draw, Sanj got Babbu & Vishal onto bowl to complete the overs and bring us to victory.
Something was missing from today's victory as Phoenix went home not in their happy & harmonious demeanour. Phoenix's strength has always been the team bond and the encouragement given to each other. Cricket is a team sport played by 22 people and respect needs to be given each other, the opposition and the captain's.
Statistically the leading players this season are as follow:
Kully - 551 runs
Prince - 295 runs
Sanj - 23 wickets
