Woodlawn v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 19 Jul 2015 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 5 wickets

Match report Beat Woodlawn by 5 wickets. On winning the toss, Sanj elected to bowl first even though the team were adamant on batting first. Was the power of skippership getting to the captain or did he have a 'cunning plan' up his sleeve. Would this be a Blackadder or a Baldrick moment only time would tell. This match had many stories to tell that would shape the events that followed from Aman making his debut, Prince not being able to keep, Hitesh protecting his injured hand so couldnt catch and Sanj hobbling of with a sprained ankle.

Woodlawn batted with ease, ignoring the slices of luck we gave them in the catching department, and scored openly as the run rate never really diminished below 6 runs per over. A final burst by Mannu held them back and for the first time in their innings they allowed the run rate to drop and ended up with 194 in 36 overs. At tea, everyone was muttering and thinking we needed to bat well if we need chase this down.

Phoenix came out but soon were in trouble at 25 for 3 and Sanj could feel a swell of mutiny gathering pace. Was the toss a bad decision? What happened next no one expected and maybe even Ali Haider did not either. Ali steadied the ship as he took a deep breath to hold his nerve and what followed was a superbly impressive 88 (which included 15 fours and a six) as he powered (and at times subtly) us home to victory. He was ably assisted by Babbu & Hitesh, who held up their end of the bargain not allowing the pressure to build up, and Aman who infact hit the winning runs.

Woodlawn are a truly friendly bunch of guys whose commitment & desire to give everyone a game is not lost. They, like us, play the game as it should be with forming friendships, applauding efforts of cricket for both teams, cheering the beers and finally walking of home awaiting next years battle.

Lets sing 'Ben' by Michael Jackson to consideration to the Woodlawn skipper also called Ben.

Ben, the two of us need look no more,
We both found what we were looking for,
With a friend to call my own,
I'll never be alone,
And you my friend will see,
You've got a friend in me.

Statistically the leading players this season are as follow:
