Match report
The seventy nine verses of Daniel 10-12 are all one long vision and revelation. The setting is the third year of Cyrus. Daniel tells us that he had been mourning for three blocks of weeks, thus three full weeks, or twenty one days. This period ended on the twenty fourth day of the first month, and thus crossed the entire Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread season. In Jason's third year in reign nothing of the sort is envisaged but could Jason's Argonauts bat more than three overs and not allow defeat pass over them as vision's of enjoying a feast at tea being more important rather than making runs.
With the season coming to an end and with the onset of Ramadan and Universities, the pool from which the Phoenix Captain can pick from is very shallow. The collective heads of Phoenix came together as they called in favours and found five players who even though do not swim in the same Phoenix Pool do share a friendship in one way or another.
In terms of five, there are also The New York Five which refers to a group of five New York City architects (Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, John Hejduk and Richard Meier) whose work appeared in a Museum of Modern Art exhibition organized by Arthur Drexler in 1967, and the subsequent book Five Architects in 1972.
Fabian back in charge of Jason's Argos, too the Phoenix ship to the close shores of Egham. A damp pitch but a warm sky welcomed both teams and on winning the toss, the opposition captain decided to bat first.
The Egham openers gave them the perfect start as they made their mark with precision shot placement, excellent running and punishing any loose and not so loose deliveries. The Egham openers Meadows and Warner took control as they made one hundred and thirty nine off just twenty three overs. At drinks, Phoenix were looking at a huge total to chase.
Then Sanj made the breakthrough in the first over after drinks as Tush took the first of this two stumpings and his second coming in the next over off Fabian's bowling. The openers now departed reignited Phoenix's fire as Egham lost eight wickets in seventeen overs for only fifty six runs. Fabian was the pick of the bowling as he ripped through the order as the wickets fell through his changes of pace and bounce; with his four wickets coming at the cost of only a miserly seventeen runs.
At tea, Phoenix need one hundred and ninety six to win on what was a lovely batting track as the sun came out to say hello.
Alas instead of creating works of art and splendour we were more like the Phoenix Five which was a low-budget science fiction series in the seventies that followed the adventures of the crew of the galactic patrol ship Phoenix Five, 'the most sophisticated craft in the Earth Space Control Fleet.' This handpicked team instead of roaming the planets protecting galactic citizens and warding off the repeated plots and attacks of the evil humanoid Zodian and a rebel scientist Platonus, architected its own journey in to the cricketing black hole being the batting void.
Phoenix crumpled to an embarrassing one hundred and ten all out with only Fabian and Daya contributing to the score with twenty six (which included four fours) and thirty six (which included four fours) respectively. The run rate was not a problem as Phoenix were scoring over six runs per over but shot selection was.
Fabian gave an impressive all round performance as he produced with the bat, the ball & in the field and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Sanj for reaching yet another milestone that being the most wickets in a season for Phoenix thus far.
Well done to Egham and to all their players who regardless of age and ability never gave up and played with a zest most commonly seen in Phoenix.
As for Phoenix, some of the best lessons we ever learn are learned from past mistakes. From the errors of the past can success for the future be based. To quote Bill Gates (American Entrepreneur and Founder of Microsoft Co.) “It's fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.”
