Thames Ditton v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 16 Apr 2017 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 2 wickets
Match report
Won by 2 wickets. So the first game of the 2017 season against Thames Ditton. A cloudy day welcomed both teams and on losing the toss we were asked to field first. We got of to the worst start possible as Thames Ditton got of to a flyer reaching their 50 in just 4 overs.
Sanjeev Kumar got himself on and took a wicket with his first ball and then in the very next over Mannu Singh took the wicket of the very dangerous Dixon who had scored 48 of the 52 runs scored. Sanjeev continued to bowl well and ended up with 4 wickets for 40 of his 8 overs and was very well supported by both Vikas Haripuriya 8 overs 1 for 28 and Rocky Sharma 4 overs 2 for 10.
At tea, Phoenix needed 185 runs to win. We came out with the same blitz as Thames Ditton as we made 37 of just 3.3 overs when Rocky found the fielder in the deep after hitting 5 fours & six for his 26 off 15 balls. We lost Rajinder Chouhan & Vishal Kumar cheaply but Jeeta Dhillon & Harman Johal held the ship together with a 78 run partnership as they closed in on the score.
We were looking comfortable when Jeeta was out for a splendid 45 off 57 balls (hitting 6 fours & 1 six). Baljit Suman was out the very next ball & we were wobbling on 126 for 4 in the 23rd over. Harman then eased the pressure as he hit 27 off the next 2 overs. Harman continued to stay calm and batted along easily with tail especially with Hitesh Pabari but the nerves got to the lower order batsmen as we tumbled to 183 for 8.
Harman fittingly hit the winning in the 33rd over as he took us over the line with Daniel Bearfoot-Fallon running the final 2 runs with desperate speed. Harman remained not out on 78 off 81 balls which included 8 fours & 4 sixes. A brilliant innings by him as he executed the perfect run chase of which Virat Kohli would have been proud off.
