Godalming v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 30 Jul 2017 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 39 runs
Match report
Beat Godalming by 39 runs. After 15 hours of rain then pitch was just about playable as the groundsman done a fantastic job to even get a wicket ready. First time in my history we have had to redo the toss because the first time the coin landed on its side (Sholay-esq), on the second time of asking Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat first.
Rajkaran Aulakh started the tempo well but his Achilles Heal is that he gets out once he has done all the hard work. On a tough wicket Vishal Kumar batted superbly as he held his bat through the innings as he opened the batting & remained not out until the end. He made a hard fought & in the end a match winning 60 which included 7 fours & 1 six off 115 balls. At 62 for 4 at drinks we were struggling but Mannu showed some impetuous and kept his form from last week with a quick fire 38 off 27 balls which included 4 fours & 1 six.
At tea we were sitting comfortably on 161. We came out with a purpose as the first 4 overs only went for 1 run but then the Godalming openers found their feet and then the boundaries. Something wasn't right and Sanjeev soon after swapped the ends at which the bowlers were bowling and immediately BaBa Bunty Tejvir took a splendid catch, clutching on as he ran around in the deep to make the breakthrough. At the 20 over drinks Godalming were 85 for 1 and the game hang in the balance.
We soon eased to victory as the bowlers and fielders came to the fore. All the bowlers then did their jobs with Sanjeev Kumar taking 2 wickets and Talha Butt bowling a tight spell but the pick of the bowlers were Mannu Singh who conceded only 6 runs of his 8 overs and Vikas Haripuriya taking his first 5 wicket haul for the club. Fielding was top notch as both Baljit Suman & Sethi Singh book took 2 catches each.
A fabulous win.
