Bank Of England v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sat 06 May 2017 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 9 wickets
Match report
Won by 9 wickets. Playing at the picturesque ground in Roehampton and it was an excellent win for the Phoenix team with all the boys contributing with wickets, catches and runs. Sanjeev had his tactics right by electing to field first in this timed game. Knowing what to score make life easier but only if we bowl first. We had an excellent start with Yakub's opening spell and he ended up with 4 wickets.
The find of the day was Jay Sankar as his wicket keeping was truly fantastic as he lead & inspired the team to field well. He took two catches as well. There were some spectacular catches by Hitesh Pabari & BaBa Bunty Tejvir whose reflex actions were awesome and Baljit Suman got into the act with taking a simple chance at leg slip.
The surprising miss was Daniel Bearfoot-Fallon who dropped his first ever chance as he did all the hard work getting into position but the catch of the day goes to Sanj for a stunning one hand slip catch.
At tea, we need 147 to win. We were quietly confident as we ate the terrific scones but we need a good start. Hitesh & Junaid Aslam opened the batting and they gave us the perfect start scoring 60 for the first wicket of Hitesh. Junaid was all calm & calculated as he allowed Paras Bhatia to score at will. They both took us to victory as they scored the 147 runs needed to win in just 22 overs.
A brilliant run chase as Junaid scored a superb 52 not out off 75 balls which included 8 fours and Paras smashed his way to a truly remarkable 60 not out off just 27 balls which included 6 fours & 5 sixes.
