Bank Of England v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sat 10 Jun 2017 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 4 wickets
Match report
Lost to Bank of England by 4 wickets. Superb weather and a superb ground to play cricket welcomed both teams, for some inexplicable reason there was so much traffic this day that everyone was running late. We forfeited the toss and against what we usually do we batted first. Our second defeat in a row as we just didn't score enough runs, we should have posted 200 plus but ended only making 167 (with 134 runs coming in boundaries). All the boys got a start but it was too much #IPL mode with the boys losing their wickets as they looked to score big.
We knew if we bowled well then we could defend that score. Mannu bowled with pace & swing and got the early breakthrough with 2 well deserved wickets and Sanj took a wicket with his very first ball. Bank of England were at 45 for 3 when two big decisions went against us that changed the direction of the game as the two boys not given out went on to put on 100 runs between them for the next wicket.
Two contentious points with today's game as once again we are not getting LBW decisions in our favour. I know too well it's hard to umpire but not to gives these out when playing across the line & missing a full toss and then playing back into the stumps & the ball hitting back foot in front of middle. Secondly in a timed game we batted first & in the time allowed received just the 33 overs but we ended up bowling 42 back to the opposition. In timed games it should be the other way around as it's harder to set a score.
We have been playing Bank of England for over 10 years now and then games have always been friendly & banterful which makes for a fun day of cricket. As they say you win some and you lose some, so onto next season.
