Hillingdon Manor v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 02 Sep 2018 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 2 wickets
Match report
Playing our local rivals, Hillingdon Manor, & this is our derby game. Lost a game that we should have really won but in the very key moments no one took ownership for their performance. Batting wise we collapsed from 214 for 4 in 26 overs to 239 all out in 33 overs; we lost 6 wickets for 25 runs in just 7 overs. Criminal not to bat out our overs.
Jas was the key to the batting as he made a sublime 1️26 off just 75 balls which included 12 fours & 8 sixes, a truly magnificent effort.
Hillingdon chased the score down in the 38th over even though we had them 7 down with 86 runs still needed to win. We dropped 3 crucial catches & missed a run out of the 2 boys who made 88 to take the opposition to victory. Our Achilles Heal of fielding hit us hard especially when we were giving away runs when there shouldn’t even be a single.
Once again the lack accountability to ones own performance and the lack of enthusiastic support for each player has cost us the win. The sooner the better the boys realise that teamwork is above individual gains the better the results will be. We must remember we are a team of players and not a group of individuals.
To learn is the only ingredient to improve. The essence to learning is to listen which is unfortunately missing.
