Amersham Hill v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 26 Apr 2009 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets
Match report
Fabian and his Legionnaires were buoyant after their first victory last week and thus were ready to display their skills once gain in full fanfare. Unlike the Phoenix and more like a peacock, the team more often than not have a habit of displaying their extravagant tail feathers, which is normally used as part of courtship.
Digressing to the point of oblivion is a characteristic that best sums up the Phoenix mood this day. With this in mind, The Bourne Identity is a spy fiction thriller novel by Robert Ludlum about a retrograde amnesiac who must discover who he is and why several groups, including an assassin and the CIA, are trying to kill him. It is the first of the Bourne Conspiracy novels written by Ludlum, and later Eric Van Lustbader, featuring Jason Bourne.
So what has amnesia has to do with the tale that unfolded at Amersham Hill you may ask, all I ask is for our patience so please read on.
Anyhow a sunny day welcomed both teams and Fabian, showing is gentler and more compassionate side, on request of the opposition captain decided to make first use of the wicket and bat first. The reason behind this was that the opposition skipper said his team was of a weaker persuasion and thus wanted us to make a game of it. Fabian is renowned for his yeti like anger but of late he is more BFG (Big Friendly Giant) and less Chewbacca. As a note Gindi was making his Phoenix debut.
To cut a long and painful story very short Phoenix were bowled out for a highly inept ninety five with the Phoenix batsman suffering from memory loss as seen by their shot selection; seems that Amersham Hill exacted the Bourne Supremacy on the Phoenix. Soon after tea, Amersham Hill exacted the Bourne Ultimatum on the Phoenix as they hit the winning runs for four atthe half way point of their innings.
Something seems to be a miss here with no mention of the Bourne Identity. This my readers came in many forms. The Amersham Hill's Jason Bourne, aka their skipper, must have forgotten how strong his side actually was since the make up of their sides were mainly first and second eleven players. The Phoenix's Jason Bourne, aka Raju Bhai, must still be suffering from amnesia as he used, borrowed everyones stuff to the point he took a souvenir home. The owners of said items such as water, cap, helmet, bat only realised he was using them when he was on the field.
The biggest cheer of the day came as Gindi took his debut first wicket in his first over with all hell breaking loose as all the Phoenix players started performing 'Bhangra' dancing in celebration.
Raj's long stand at the crease as well as his energy behind the stumps gave Phoenix something to smile about and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Nad for passing the thousand runs mark for Phoenix.
Well done to Amersham Hill for giving Phoenix the oppurtunity to play. As for Phoenix who in the face of defeat & embrassment kept their helds up high and fought for every run and every ball through out the day. They displayed true character and teamwork as they stayed enthusiastic and energetic.
To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson quotes (American Poet, Lecturer and Essayist, 1803-1882) 'Enthusiasm is the mother of effort, and without it nothing great was ever achieved.'.
