Turnham Green v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 03 May 2009 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 89 runs
Match report
Fabian leds his Legion of Doom on a sunny day to the not too far Turnham Green. The convey of cars without any hiccups made their way across Cranford, Brentford, Kew and finally Chiswick in an uneventful journey to the lovely Fullers Ground which played host to this game.
The opposition skipper won the toss and offered us first use of the wicket. In the days leading up to this game, a more eventful event occured with the release of X-Men Origins, the story of Wolverine.
Why makes this connection you may ask. Simple, the game that was played out was made eventful by Phoenix's own superheros in the form of Fulgour (Splendour) Fabian, Rhabdos (Magic Wand) Rahul, Nitency (Impulse) Nad, Sangfroid (Composure) Sofian and Dapatical (Lavish) Dinesh.
Fabian, made a splended thirty-three (which included one four and three sixes) as his power gave Phoenix the perfect start by losing three balls he hit out of the ground for huge sixes.
Rahul, made a magical sixty-six (which included twelve fours) as he pierced the fielding with ease with shots all over the park.
Nad, made a impulsive forty-one (which included five fours) as he played with ease finding the gaps for easy runs more often than not.
Sofian, made a cool thirty-four (which included four fours and a six) as he easily set to his task unleashing his talent towards the end of the innings.
Dinesh, made a lavish twenty-seven (which included five fours) as he hit five fours in a row showing his hidden & gaurded talent.
A quick mention here to Rahul & Nad who made a one hundred and five run partnership off twenty overs and to Sofian & Dinesh who hit sixty-three runs in the final five overs. The efforts of all of these men gave a Phoenix a commanding position at tea with Turnham Green needing two hundred and forty seven runs to win.
Turnham Green came out to bat to give it a go but the Phoenix bowlers & fielders did what was needed to be done and soon enough victory was out of their sights. A mention to Stewart who battled away to an excellent fifty but was eventually run out to the rocket arm of Sofian.
Dinesh produced a great overall performance with bat, ball (taking his maiden Phoenix wicket) & fielding and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Rahul for passing the hundred runs mark and to Sanj for passing the ten wicket mark for the season thus far.
The King of Comedy is a feature film, made in 1982 starring Robert De Niro & Jerry Lewis and directed by Martin Scorsese, whose slogan was 'It's no laughing matter'. Today was such a day and maybe The Original Kings of Comedy (film released in 2000 directed by Spike Lee and starring Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley & Bernie Mac) need to make people laugh again.
Well done to Turnham Green for a great day out and standing tall throughout the game. As for Phoenix, they have led by example, making their Captain and Director of Cricket proud, in which they play the game be it in defeat (as per last week at Amersham Hill) or in victory here today.
Zig Ziglar (American motivational Speaker and Author.) says 'You are the only person on earth who can use your ability'. Thus To quote Lou Holtz (American Football coach, 1937-1980) 'Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.'
