O.C.Traditionalists v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 31 May 2009 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 154 runs
Match report
So on to the game verus O.C.Traditionalists. Over the years the rivlary between OCT and Phoenix has been competitive but always a friendly spirited one to the point where this is one of our best fixtures and one we all look forward to. Tushar, the only person in the team knowing of modern pop music, informed us that the lead singer for Razorlight Johnny Borrell was playing. So this match report pays tribute to his songs and albums as displyed in quotation marks.
So please read on and enjoy.
The team was 'Up All Night' giving up their 'Vice' of 'Rock N Roll Lies' by telling the women (with 'Burberry Blue Eyes') 'Who Needs Love' and 'Leave Me Alone' , as Phoenix were going 'In The Morning' to play a game of cricket. They were not going to 'Dalston' and we were not playing a 'North London Trash' outfit but a team who were 'Hostage Of Love' who always showed their class in the form of spirit and hospitality.
It was a lovely hot day and everyone wanted to be 'Somewhere Else' like in 'Kirby's House' in 'America' doing the 'Los Angeles Waltz' or reminiscing to 'Pop Song 2006' but 'Back To The Start' as for the first time we got to 'The House' of OCT on time and without getting lost. On winning the toss Fabian had no hesitation in electing to bat first to the cheers and joys of his legion.
Fabian and Tushar soon 'Rip It Up' as boundaries was flowing with fours and sixes with both making brilliant fifties with Fabian making a superb fifty-two (which included six fours and three sixes) and Tushar a sublime fifty-nine (which included eleven fours and a six). They laid the foundation of a big score as they made ninety runs of sixteen overs.
Sofian and Amrit then filled the 'Monster Boots' of Fabian as they exploded with the big hits as they upped the run rate and took Phoenix to an commandable two hundred and sixty eight of their alloted forty overs. Sofian blasted thirty-five (which included three fours and three sixes) and Amrit bashed thirty (which included two fours and three sixes) as they broke the Eight Wicket Partnership making seventy runs of just six overs.
The Phoenix batsman were saying to themselves 'I Can't Stop This Feeling I've Got' since they had the 'Golden Touch' as the team plundered ten enourmous sixes that would have gone 'In The City' or lost 'To The Sea'.
At tea, the ever so generous Tony's had his daughter make Phoenix a special chocolate cake and when they said ''You And The Rest' its time for tea Phoenix had a feast. With sugar levels high and bellys full Phoenix went out onto the field knowing they had to 'Get It & Go' in order to win the game.
Fabian has a Stinger' in his tail as he decided to open the bowling with Sanj. The plan worked with Sanj taking three wickets and could he break his forty wickets record with a '60 Thompson' haul this seaon? The OCT batsman began to 'Stumble & Fall' not knowing 'Which Way Is Out' as the wickets began to 'Fall, Fall, Fall'. They had to 'Hold On' 'Before I Fall To Pieces' but the game was all over. The news spread 'Wire To Wire' as the 'Tabloid Lover' would have had fun writing this match report informing everyone that Phoenix had won the game and made the series thus far two wins a piece.
Sofian produced a cricketing performance in which he excelled when batted, bowled and fielded and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Fabian for passing one hundred runs and Sanj for passing twenty wickets for the season thus far.
So as the "Slipway Fires" burnt away the Phoenix & OCT players bonded stronger friendships as they drank in the pub "Up All Night" knowing that all was well as the "Razorlight" of the sun rose on a new morning. Phoenix know that next season that OCT will be looking for 'Blood For Wild Blood' revenge but always look forward to the challenge.
A thank you to OCT for being great hosts and for having as much as fun as we do in 'heckling our own' in making the game a joyous occassion for all those playing and watching. As for Phoenix, the greatest tribute to the team is when the OCT players told us that we are their best fixture in their limited season and wondered why more teams were not like us.
To quote Alfred P. Sloan (May 23, 1875 – February 17, 1966 was a long-time president and chairman of General Motors.) 'The greatest real thrill that life offers is to create, to construct, to develop something useful. Too often we fail to recognize and pay tribute to the creative spirit. It is that spirit that creates our jobs'.
